what ship has the best speed for hyper jumps and still has good cargo and mass sizes? This is so I can run the Igadzra mission I posted earlier.

Depends on your credits.. as I recall you said you currently have a UE Carrier, which probably has a reasonable trade-in value. For permanently changing ships at this stage I'd say get a Lazira for 3.75M - you can do this on Igadzra. It has good speed, 1-day hyperspace jumps, about 50 tons cargo and plenty of weapons space.
Zidara's are good too, but you went and played for the Igadzra.
I've never piloted a Lazira. I suggest that you don't stick with it - there are
plenty of better ships. Plus, the Lazira can't perform well as a fighter using
fighter tactics, nor does it have enough power to overwhelm much.

How would one go about obtaining a Zidagar fighter?

Edit the MissionBit or something like that in ResEdit, or just set it to a certain system where you want it to be purchaseable. On my old 1.0.1 (which I now regret throwing away and getting 1.02.) after I did the raid Pariah mission, I could land on Pariah, and there would be Oufit, Shipyard, Bar, and Commodity exchange. And I was able to purchase any outfit in the game, including bays, plasma siphons, etc, etc, and in the shipyard I could buy any ship, even the normally unpurchaseable ones (Zidagar Fighter, Zachit ships, Emalgha Warship, Enhanced Azdara/Arada, etc.).

In the real game, there isn't a way. You can command them by buying a (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~dsghosh/shipyard4.html#zidara")Zidara(/url), but you can't ever pilot one. Of course, you can do what ESpilot says, but I really don't think it's worth it.

I was interested to know if there was any way to get hold of once since it seems to be the only ship that nobody's completed the Crew Of One Challenge in so far... Of course, the whole point of that game variant is to make the game tougher... resorting to cheating is not an option! I didn't think the Ziddies ever sold their fighter. Reileved to know that maybe I'm not crazy after all.

Anything with a tonnage of <100 makes hyperspace jumps in one day. Clue: That's stuff that appears on the radar screen as a single dot when you have a mass detector upgrade installed.
From among the 1-jump ships which carry cargo, you could consider:
Helian: Cargo 50 tons
Also useful for light combat duties, though slow and a bit fragile.
Scoutship: Cargo 40 tons
A poor ship, not at all like its namesake in EV. Long range though, and not needing to land to refuel can shave critical time off your journey on some missions.
UE Transporter: Cargo 60 tons
A bargain compared to the the scoutship, and faster too. Very limited in combat because it can only carry two primary weapons. A great way to make money early in the game, though, before you start gunning for Voinians.
Zidara: Cargo 40 tons
A cheap, fast-jumping alternative to the Crescent Warship, but you'll need to be a long way down a mission string to buy one... and you might not want to work for the Zidaagr anyway. A good ship in basic form, but almost impossible to upgrade.
Arada: Cargo 40 tons (?)
A cheap ship that can be made highly effective. Some folks stop with the Arada, and keep it for the rest of the game.
Lazira: Cargo 40 tons (?)
A good ship for the person who has a few millions, and doesn't want Captain Hector to steal it. It's actually poorer than the Arada in some ways, unless you like to carry plenty of secondaries.
Miranu Courier: Cargo capacity unknown
Slow flying but fast-jumping. Expensive for what it is, but it looks cool. A sweet ship for the peaceful trader.
Sorry I can't be more specific... the 'shipyard' websites where I got most of the information were mysteriously silent about the values of the last three.

i'd go with the arada, 40tons cargo, 80 tons space, nice speed and all that crap. It is better than the lazira. one of my pilots has a lazira, and i quit playing it. It is very slow, and is bad for big fights unless you seriously add a ton of secondaries. I have an arada, and over 10m(hector keeps stealing over 5m every 20 some mins.!), and i am getting around 30k credits from tribute.
------------------
I happen to like the miranu gunship very much. It is faster then the Lazira and when you sell off the what it comes with you have more space. It does have less shields but it has more armor and plus it looks cool. With engine, RCS and thrust upgrades, 2 external fuel tanks, 2 ramscoops, an afterburner, 4 shield generators and 3 phase turrets it still has the extra 60 tons to hold bronev armor
It is also cheaper....
It also takes 1 day to jump, but to get it you ahve to do part of the Zacha missions

You might want to consider registering the software. If you've played enough to have several pilot files and dominated a bunch of planets, your purchase will probably work out at substantially under a dollar per hour of time in the game. Is that so much to ask for? Your support will keep one of the few Mac-friendly games companies alive, and will help fund the development of future software such as Nova.

You've convinced me! I'll register EVO (even though I don't have a Mac) to support
Ambrosia!
Maybe I'll get a Mac first..............

I pilot a Lazira a lot... I think they're fine, but the Igazra is my vehicle of choice. Very roomy.

A couple things to keep in mind about the Lazira: first, it has a great shield recharge. In fact, it's the second fastest recharging ship available for purchase (in terms of units of shielding recharged per second), behind only the Azdara. Because it's shields recharge so fast, it can hold up in a long battle as well as a warship with much stronger shielding if you know when to back away briefly. Also, with the speed upgrades it handles as well as a heavy fighter (and I recommend speed upgrades on any warship). Plus, it has the same potential for primary weapons as an Arada. At most, an Arada can hold 2 cannons and 2 turrets (in 1.0.1 & 1.0.2). Each turret counts as 2 cannons, so it can have a combined 6 cannons. A Lazira can have 3 turrets, so it also can have a combined 6 cannons. The Lazira compares favorably with the ship many people tend to suggest instead, the Zidara. The Lazira recharges its shields enough faster that the slightly higher shields on the Zidara won't hold up as well in long combats. Either way, you might want to consider flying the Lazira before passing judgment on it.

The Arada has 40 tons of cargo space. The Lazira has 50 tons and the Miranu Courier has 60.
