    • David vs. Goliath...

Well, I know this is at least true for me.

Lately when I have been playing EV and EVO, I will start off as most others do by saving up and buying a scoutship. Now most of you have played EV so I am sure that you know what i am talking about. In fact, this isn't even really true for EVO but, in EV the only ship you need is the scoutship. It is very easy to destroy confed frigates, patrol ships, gun ships, and even cruisers. Just wanted to know if anyone had some stories to share about David vs Goliath battles that they have won in any of the Escape Velocity games. Share away! 😄

    • For the crew of one challenge I managed to take out the Igazra in the Nebula exploration missions, in my shuttle, and earlier in a crescent fighter. It's a mean one though - Igazras seem to have longer range on their phase turrets than most ships, making it even harder to monty python them. In the shuttle I just had to run in with phase and plasma siphon blasting full tilt, and thank the stars for my dospect armour - courtesy of the Zidagar systems upgrade. My armour recharged a little faster than his shields and after about 6 run-ins I managed to get him to shields down, and knew there wasn't much else to him :). I was pretty happy with that one - if only could give a reaction. And I guess it's pretty lucky for them that they didn't have an escape pod on board - imagine the embarassment when other Igadzra found out :)!

Unfortunately shortly after that mission string I equipped that shuttle with a mass expansion, which annoyingly made it impossible to complete the UE objective with it. But I made a copy of the pilot a while earlier, and the copy is almost back to the same place - Zidagar and Igadzra objectives complete, Role Model status throughout Igadzra, Zidagar and Azdgari space - welcome in all crescent systems except council station. Sound odd? For the first time, I've learnt a nice secret - human renegades: never leave home without them. I've kept the first UE cruiser mission active, so three human renegade vessels follow me everywhere. Killing them in the crescent does wonderous things to your rating - because they have higher crew compliments than crescent ships. The Azdgari and Igadzra really can't resist a human renegade killer - they put you up to role model really quickly, regardless of whose side you're on :). Even the South and North Tip renegades become very friendly that way. Even the Voinians, although that takes a bit more effort :).

    • Well really, you can ONLY take out any ship with the scoutship using the monty python, which is really technically cheating...I perfer a straight and fair fight. 🙂

I'm not sure if that story's believable. It's on my web site (under (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~dsghosh/evosite/shipyard2.html#vdreadnought")dreadnought(/url)), but it's insubstantiated as far as I'm concerned, and it says so. Is there a screenshot of that or something? 🙂 I'd really like to see it... Ankh has mad skillz.

MartinNZ has recently achieved the same thing, according to his posts under the Crew of One Challenge. He did all three central objectives in the Krait. Ask him about it?

Yes, he does. Trust me, EVERY WORD OF IT IS TRUE.

My best accomplishment in terms of small ships vs. bigger ships was killing the Alien Cruiser in a shuttle in EV....never tried anything really crazy in EVO, though (unless you count killing the Dreadnought with an Arada)

    • I've taken the Dreadnought with a UE fighter about a dozen or so times (not
      lying).

And I take down warships with my Cresent fighter on a regular basis.

Oh, and this isn't really a David versus Goliath, but I've taken down Kraits
and Helians and Voinian heavy fighters in my trusty old Shuttlecraft.

    • Most recently I took down the dreadnought with a scoutship.

I jumped into the system and took out the interceptors and heavy fighters with blaze cannons flying. I then proceeded very carefully and slowly to take out the remaining frigates. After about 15 mins with those bad boys I attacked the dreadnought. I have to admit I did a wee bit of monty pythoning, but in the end it was all gravy. The flames engulfed the horrid dreadnought and it blew itself to pieces. After about 2 mins of course! 😄

He was a respected membered and we trusted him. He certainly seemed like the type to do it.

    • I really only ever have to finish off the Dreadnought, and doing it in the Krait for the challenge it just happened to be mostly killed by the UE ships, so it doesn't really count. And then with my Shuttle it was really just almost stationary MPing with phase cannons - for ages.. again doesn't really count. I'd be impressed with a proper killing of it in a little ship.

    • Once I get a Mac (arg!) I'm going to try it in a) a shuttlecraft 🆒 a Krait, and
then c) a Cargo Transporter. Oh, and d) start off in a Freighter and capture myself
a Voinian Heavy Fighter for the job in system. Gulp.
