I had just left Outpost Alpha in my Cargo Transporter(starting a new pilot), and was greeted by a UE Destroyer, a UE Fighter - and 3 Voinian Frigates. In the end, the only dead UE ship was the UE Fighter. And I won't pretend that I killed three Voinian Frigates in a Cargo transporter.

The UE Destroyer went after the first Frigate. I knew he could take one if it was alone, and two if they were alone and he dealt with them seperatly. Then I had an idea...

Before the other two could catch up to him, I went around and shot them once with my Blaze Turrent. They then started chasing(or rather crawling) after me, and left the UE Destroyer alone for now. Needless to say, the Destroyer kicked the first Frigates but, at the cost of the UE Fighter. It then proceded to go beat the second Frigate. There was one left, but the destroyers shields were down. Now it was time for me to interviene. As the UE destroyer pounded the frigate, I made sure the Firgate was mad at me and not the destroyer - at least enough so it never fired a rocket at the destroyer.

The Crossfire - extreemly hard to pull off, but deadly when it works.
Get an escort with Blaze, Nuteron, or Emalgha Cannons(phase cannons are too fast) and get the same weapon yourself. Time your firing so it's perfectly sincronated wiht your escorts weapons, so your shots "take turns" hitting the enemy. The enemy ship won't be able to decide who to attack.

The Backstabber - you must have the cloaking device to pull this one off, very useful when being swarmed with fighters
Cloak and position yourself behind the last fighter. Then uncloak, quickly dispose of it and cloak again. Repeat until the fighters are gone.

Sounds like your Destroyer friend got damn lucky. Sure it can generally take out a Frigate by itself, but if it goes after a second Frigate without fully repairing its shield, there's no way it will survive even if the fighter did speed up the demise of the first one, I've seen this happen enough times to know. One or both of those first two must have already been damaged significantly, or maybe the Destroyer happened to be the U.E.S. Incontrovertable. As for the third Frigate, the destroyer must have been down to low armor by this time. Your tactic works, but you must have been pretty quick on the trigger. I've tried doing this, but I can't seem to keep them Voinian ship mad constantly enough to spare my ally its wrath.

Also: backstabber? Now I know what to call it. I use that tactic all the time on Voinian fighters when I'm almost dead, because they're slow to turn around.

The last time I was on this board, the price of dumb questions was really high.

    • A good tactic I have discovered for repairing armor or shielding when being attacked by small fast ships (i.e. cresent fighters, aradas) is to spin in a circle while moving slowing in some direction, all turrents firing at whatever ship is targeted. That way you can take out a few ships (slower than usual) while repairing your shielding.

    • My favorite tactic is one I call Follow the Leader. It works really well against the bigger ships. All you do is get the ship to chase you in a strait line. Then you slow down until the ship is within weapons range. Maintain that distance and start firing. If done right the enemy ship will never get a shot off. Die Voinian Dreadnaught Die!!!

    • Yeah, I have used your "Follow The Leader" way back in my original Escape Velocity days. Probably killed more ships that way than any other! (esp. big ones even the Alien Mothership, if I remember correctly.)

    • Follow the Leader is also known as The Monty Python. Remember how in Quest for the Holy Grail their battle cry was "Run away! Run away!"?

The Spitfire almost always won in a Winding Match against an Me109, but in the Far East against the Zero they were cut to peices and had to use a swooping attack more like your 'Spearhead'.

Yes, I've also heard of this. However, I believe this common occurance(sp?) was termed 'scissors.' The two involved dogfighters would eventually creature a figure-eight, as each tried to outturn the other. Of course, if you tried to break of scissors, you got cut to pieces.
      No pun intended.

      Do-spect armor? Hah!
I Do'spect that you're going to die, mister Vonian.

    • Hmm this is a good topic. Think I'll try some of these.

I'm sorry, but the Monty Python would most definately /not/ work in real life. The reason it works in the game is because a projectile with speed 2000 will /always/ move at speed 2000, regardless of the speed of the ship that fired it, so when you're moving right at speed 1000, shots fired to the right only go at 1000 (relative to the player) and shots go to the left at 3000 (relative to the player), thus giving shots to the left a greater range. In real life, however, velocity is cumulative. So the Monty Python would not work in real life, even if the guy you were fighting were stupid enough to keep chasing you.

Kinda late here but I reckon the MP would work. Most of the primary weapons are laser based. (Yes I know this means that blaze and phase fire should travel equally fast.) Light from the laser travels at the speed of light. No arguing. If you put a laser on top of a car and drive really fast the light will travel no faster. The same shoul apply to weapon fire from ships.
