I'm a big EVO fan but I have a Thinkpad at school so I can't play EVO. Does anyone know of a similar game for the PC?

    • Nope. Most recent PC games are probably more advanced than EVO.

    • One of the advantages of EV:O having such modest system requirements is that it'll even run pretty well under an emulator. Why not try setting up the shareware version of Fusion (or whatever) on your PC Contemptible and running EV:O as a 68040 would?

I got this .sig file at insanely_great.com - don't even think about taunting me!

    • Buy a cheep Mac Powerbook!

      Buy a "cheap" powerbook?

Maybe we are on different payment shedules.....

      sterling

    • I have a "cheap" PowerBook, but the screen is too small. Tell me again why a 9" screen can't run EVO even if it has 640x480 resolution.

    • Only thing with emulators are ROM Image files. Personally I've grown to hate them quite much because I can't find one!! I got someone to create and send me one from their mac, but their OS was too up-to-date. :frown:

    • It's true that some of the powerbooks are quite cheap now. Why buy an iBook, when you can get an 'obsolete' Powerbook which is smaller, cheaper and more expandable? Plus I hate the styling of the iBook. There are quite a lot of places that can sell you an item of unsold stock; never been used and now at half the list price or less.

I bought a second-hand Powerbook 5300 a little over a year ago. It was very cheap. I installed EV, just for fun, and it runs smoothly enough - though remapping the controls to suit a laptop was annoying.

    • I cannot believe this web board was infested by the dark side...
I have a 333 Mhz iMac... I used to have some serious problems running Unreal Tournament and such games, because I only had 64 MB RAM. So I put a 128 MB RAM module in.... AND WHAM! no problems anymore.. 160 MB, not bad I guess
So, if you buy a cheap old computer, DOUBLE the RAM it WILL improve your performance.

    • DeadMan, I would stuff it and then PASSWORD protect it, and then give the password to the people that applied as testers, so noone else can just download it for fun!
(hehe I was one if those ppl and was disappointed when I couldn't unstuff it 😄 )

Is it too late to ask to join?

    • Hmm, wrong thread with that last one :)?

I was thinking I might have to get an iBook, but that would be next year - I'm assuming they will run EVO and EVN.. it'll probably be known by then! Playing on Executor is just not a substitute - if it had sound and didn't crash every other time I got a mission from a bar it would be okay, but that isn't so!

    • Executor is pretty substandard, and quite overpriced. I hear fusion is better, but I can't find anyone with a 512k-1mb rom image file to test it. :frown:

    • Executor is actually quite good if all you're going to do is EVO. It isn't a real Mac OS but it also doesn't require a ROM image if I remember correctly.
The shareware version is available for download and it will run EVO with the sound turned off fairly well.
