    • Co-operative Plug-in

I think it would be interesting if several people worked together on
      a plug-in.

So, please message any governments you want to put in for a start. Please
only message one government, and after a while we'll move on to different
      things.

We'll need maybe 6 or so governments (and of course, a super powerful pers
      for each)

      Please join in the fun.

      ------------------

    • Okay how 'bout the "Sriquom" a powerful military race who control a whole bunch of systems. Their ships are fast and they have decent armor/shields. The pers is Lord Cranaitorn who goes on about either a) resistance futile, or 🆒 nobility and honor are important.

      ------------------
      Diddly,
      "Well, we could grind
our enemies into powder, but gosh, we did that yesterday."

(This message has been edited by diddlysquat (edited 03-15-2001).)

    • Here's a thought. How about a totally benevolent, pacifist race. They have incredibly powerful ships and weaponry, but only use them as a last resort for defensive purposes. Anyone is welcome to take refuge in their space, but they get mad if you attack innocents like traders. Their special Pers could be "Wilhelm," who hails you and says meaningless phrases in German.

      ------------------
The last time I was on this board, the price of dumb questions was really high.

    • How about a government that has very powerful ships but never attacks first unless its against pirates. Their përs could be Jacob (pronounced "yakub" with the only the consonents being stressed) who hails auf Deutsch (german for "in german") and gives helpful combat tips in English.

Wunderbar! "Jakob" could give you tips auf Englisch, but mit ein German accent! Use der Monty Python manoivah against ze beeg und shlow ships, ja? By the way, I think you meant "auf Deutschland" (from Gremany). No offense to any Germans reading this, by the way, I'll make up for it right now by imitating someone speaking German with an American accent: Gootin Tag, mine Hair! Itch heissah StarStrafer, vee heist Doo?

Does anyone else see the similarities here ;)? I like both ideas but still. both of the governments sound pretty similar (no offense meant to either of you)

None taken. After all, it was MY IDEA FIRST!!!!! Seriously, though, I think JediBrass was just elaborating, not duplicating.

Ah! That would explain everything. Thanks for the tipoff (sorry JediBrass:0).

I meant "auf Deutsch" as "in German" not "from Germany" I know I'm right, b/c my Deutschlehrerin says to a guy in my Deutsch vier Klasse who thinks he know no German to speak in german, und sie (meine Deutschlehrerin) hat gesagt, "Justin! Sprech auf Deutsch!" Now on to the përs of Jacob. He can hail in German (which will get the player's attention and make player want to hail him) and then he'll give tips in a German accent (and please use a German spell check before you try some of those sentences, it made my hair stand on end to see German written phonetically) 😄 :p.

      Cheers,
~Jedibrass (den Deutschmeister. I habe gesagt, "Komm mein Schatz, gib deinen MacVati ein grössen Kuss.) 😄 😄 😄 (just kidding with that quote. :p)

Actually, I spelled it that way on purpose. I was making fun of Americans trying to speak German. I can spell it fine if I need to. Guten Tag, mein Herr! Ich heiße StarStrafer, wie heißt Du? See? Sorry about the "from Germany" thing though, it's been about three years since my last German class. Hmm, I hope that quote wasn't directed at me in particular, but I digress, as do we all. Maybe it's time we stopped turning poor Esponer's topic into a German lesson. Qui parle français? Just kidding. How about another government suggestion? Anyone?

    • How about a race so advanced they no longer need ships for space travel, weapons for combat, or even bodies? They could exist only as invisible concentrations of energy, and have a serious superiority complex that makes them think talking to humans or other lower races is a waste of time. And they could communicate using Norwegian through telepathy.

      "Hvilket tog gĺr til sentrum?"

Sure, except since they don't seem to need anything that is represented in EVO, the only way we'd know about them is when we suddenly start hearing Norwegian in our heads, but I don't know how you could make a plug-in do that.

    • Actually, this was the idea behind the delta_v plugin, which looked awesome, but I haven't heard of it in years.

Anyhow, here's a suggestion. If you want the thing to be balanced, you need to create a set of rules for weapon design, ship design, etc. These are the rules I made for Galaxy's Edge so that it would be balanced and consistent.

Damn, I can't format this. Use your imagination.

      Spöb Type: Gövt Tech level
      4 5 6 7 8 9 10
      Capital 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
      Military 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
      University 3 4 5 7 8 9 10
      Corporate 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
      Industrial 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
      Mine 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
      Backwater 2 2 3 3 4 4 5

Defense should be in 5-ship waves, and the total tonnage should equal techlevel * 1000

      Avg ships (for systs)
Add up all techlevels in the system, and divide by 2.
For uninhabited systems, 1/2 of avgships in the most advanced neighboring system.

      Fighter bays:
Tons: total tonnage of ships allowed in bay
      Cost: double ship cost

      Weapon Cost:

      Base cost: 1,500 credits
      Base mass: 1/2 ton

Multipliers (add them up and multiply cost and mass)
      Range = Count * Speed / 100

Multiplier Dam/Sec Range Speed Ammo/Sec(-) Flags
      0.5 4 100 1200 3
      1 10 200 2400 10
      2 20 400 4800 40
      3 30 700 9200 90
      4 45 1100 + 160
      6 60 1600 360 Turret, limited
      8 80 2200 640 Turret; crappy guidance
      10 100 2900 1,000 Good guidance
      15 150 3700 2,250
      20 200 + 4,000 Mine (-)
      Divide mass as follows:
      TL1, 0.4; TL2, 0.7; TL3, 0.9; TL4, 1.0; TL5, 1.1; TL6, 1.3; TL7, 1.6; TL8, 2.0; TL9, 2.5; TL10, 4.0.

      Fuel use for energy weapons:
      Ammotype Damage Per shot
      -1001 2
      -1002 4
      -1003 6
      -1004 8
      -1005 10
      -1006 12

      Engine Cost:

      Acceleration/Speed Turn % of weight
      100 1 10
      200 2 20
      300 3 30
      400 4 40
      500 5 50
      600 6 60
      700 7 70
      800 8 80

Each ton of engines costs 4,000 credits.
Divide tons (after cost) as follows:
      TL1, 0.4; TL2, 0.7; TL3, 0.9; TL4, 1.0; TL5, 1.1; TL6, 1.3; TL7, 1.6; TL8, 2.0; TL9, 2.5; TL10, 4.0.

      Fuel Cost:

      2 tons & 10,000 credits per 100 units.

      Fuelregen Tons Cost
      128 0 5,000
      64 1 10,000
      32 2 20,000
      16 4 40,000
      8 8 80,000
      4 16 160,000
      2 32 320,000
      1 64 640,000

      Tons divided: TL1, 0.4; TL2, 0.7; TL3, 0.9; TL4, 1.0; TL5, 1.1; TL6, 1.3; TL7, 1.6; TL8, 2.0; TL9, 2.5; TL10, 4.0.

      Passive Defense Cost:

Shields: 1 ton and 10,000 credits per 50 units.
Armor: 1 ton and 5,000 credits per 50 units.

      Shieldre %tonnage (shieldre = shieldre * shields/2000)
      128 0
      64 4
      32 8
      16 16
      8 32
      4 64
      2 82
      1 91

For every base ton of shieldre, it'll cost 10,000 credits.
      Tons divided: TL1, 0.4; TL2, 0.7; TL3, 0.9; TL4, 1.0; TL5, 1.1; TL6, 1.3; TL7, 1.6; TL8, 2.0; TL9, 2.5; TL10, 4.0.

      For all ships:

Cargo space is free, but takes up tonnage.
Freemass is always 20% of the ship's total mass.
      Deathdelay = mass/10
Crew size: 1 per 25 tons (just a general rule - fighters, for example, usually have 1 crew no matter what size)

Well, I must confess I'm here bacause I'm attending the U of O, I'm actually from California. But I did live in Ashland and Medford for a total of seven years, so I think I deserve to call myself an Oregonian anyway.

    • May I post a government suggestion?

A race called the Karians. They are a thoughtful race, bound by honour,
currently at war with ????????? <someone choose>. They are very much into
duels, and thus think that fighter bays and very long ranged secondary weapons
      are unfair.

Their ships are armour based, very fast, and their weapons on their ships
tends to include various lasers; a shield damaging laser, an armour damaging
laser, one that can hurt both quite well, a tractor/repulsor beam and a short
      range blaster.

Ship types would include an Azdara type ship, a heavy fighter like EV's Rapier,
a sort of Zidara type ship (no fighter bay) and a massive capital ship like
      the Igazra.

Their pers would be "Alexander", who travels in the heavy fighter and has a
powerful recharge rate and deadly long range laser weapon that doubles up
as a tractor beam - called the Pulse Laser, which you gain for completing a
      certain mission string.

And I also officially hand the lead of this operation to Giule, who seems
to know more about what he's doing than I do.

So Giule, if you want, you can lead the building. If you don't want, then
anybody else who knows what our genius here was on about can lead this
      operation.
