    • A Terrifying "Strict Play" Adventure

Well, I've been lurking around here for a while and I've decided to throw in my two cents. This IS my first post here, so forgive me if I screw up 🙂

This happened about 3 days ago w/ my new pilot, who is on STRICT play. 😄

I was cruising around in the "Antagonist", A heavily modified scoutship, when I decided to hit the Bar on Luna to see what was up, I got one of the FE Missions to Outpost Alpha. I needed the cash pretty badly after I poorly managed a small trade company dealing in commodities on a trade route I had found. I had around 5000 in my accounts and another 75000 would be a welcome addition to my funds. I took the mission, locked in the course to the outpost. (Being on strict play and all, these missions are extremely risky for me, so I tend to stay with the lower risk, lower pay ones) When I warped in I was met with a nasty surprise, instead of the typical 3-4 Voinian Frigates, I had the pleasure of stumbling upon 3 frigates and 2 cruisers. Upon warping into the system I pulled a 180 degree turn and waited for UE reinforcements, normally I would be able to run the blockade of slugheads, but they were sitting right on top of the outpost, making things considerably more interesting. Unfortunately for me, the usual UE destroyer(s) never came. Leaving me on my own, I had spent a considerable amount of time getting here due to some sidetracking deliveries on the way, so I ended up coming in on the last day before the mission time ran out. I decided it was time for me to put my piloting skills to the test so I could have my first post here be something interesting. Now I will describe this scary adventure from a "story" like view.

With the absence of reinforcements to help draw the Lumbering Cruisers away from where I needed to get these med supplies to, I was gonna have to think of something. I manipulated the controls to turn me around towards the outpost. Suddenly more dots came on the sensor screens, the Antagonist's Upgraded Density and IFF Sensors told me they were small enemy ships, I assumed they were voinian heavy fighters, from what I had heard they were not particularily noteworthy fighters, but even the Antagonist wouldn't be able to take very many hits, so I pondered my options in my head as the fighters approached, I set my sensors and focused on a fighter, and got a small schematic of it. As the fighters slowly approached, my eyes ran over the schematics looking for a weakness other than lack of speed, I noticed it didn't have any turret mounted weapons leaving it's back undefended, I assumed this before I pulled up the schematics, but assumptions get you killed. The Comm unit chimed on and a thick Voinian Voice coming from the lead fighter demanded that I power down my weapons and prepare to be boarded. "You can have my ship when you tractor in it's broken hull when I'm dead." I replied, mentally working out a plan to deal with the first wave of 3 fighters. "An Acceptable Compromise, Human." The fighters were now dangerously close to weapons range, and in the distance I could see the silouhettes of the 3 frigates closing fast. I hit the acceleration controls and slammed my foot down on the afterburners, the Antagonist had 2 extra fuel tanks for extended afterburner usage. As I charged into the 3 fighters, all 3 of them launched rockets. "Oh Shiznit." I turned the ship around in a 180 quickly plotting an evasive course then I slammed on the afterburners to decelerate me, I turned the ship 45 degrees to my port and just before the rockets hit, I slammed afterburners again flew just far enough to dodge the rockets, the fighters had barely advanced over this time, but my lack of movement put me into their primary weapons range. The Antagonist shuddered as the weapons fire smashed into her shields. Shields were at about 60%, I turned to face the fighters and flew full speed into their formation before their rocket launchers reloaded, I flew right past them and then turned to face them, hitting the afterburners to overcome my inertia and shoot me towards their undefended backsides. I locked weapons onto the lead ship, and pushed the firing button repeatedly, when I came just behind them I stopped the ship and held my fire, blowing the leader away before he could turn. 2 More Rockets came streaming at me, a quick reverse and a turn allowed me to dodge, it, as the the rockets streamed into a freight courier which immediately opened fire on the voinians, allowing me to escape. I flew towards the frigates, set my ship into repeating 360's and threw on the afterburners, effectively dodging the incoming rockets, I flew through the formation to the main outpost where a cruiser still loomed, I circled it with my burners and somehow managed to slow down enough to land on the outpost. When the men unloaded the supplies, the seemingly heavenly 75000 credits were deposited into my accounts, I wonder if that was enough for the amount of risk it took to get it here....

How'd Ya Like it? BTW I call the repeating 360's with afterburners held down the "Jester's Dance". It's not too effective against anything but rockets fired from a distance.

    • That was interesting. Maybe you should post in in "Moments of Pride and Acomplishment" - or just turn this into another one of that kind of post.

    • I never play on strict play.

    • It never used to, but I am now. While you can't be as cocky, it is much more fun.

    • Impressive first post, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who observed silently a while before deciding to open my big mouth, how refreshing.
