Well, by the time I was playing Override, I had learned not to do stupid things like attack UE destroyers and carriers in your shuttlecraft.

Here's what I did the first time I played Escape Velocity:

I remember the first mistake I ever made... I was in my shuttlecraft, and I was so proud that I had the money to buy two laser cannons! Proudly, I left Earth, and looked for a ship to test my new killer-weapons on. I saw this rather big vessel...I wasn't sure what it was. It was large, grey, and had these little blue dots on its wings. "I guess I'll shoot at that thing," I thought. I fired my laser cannons, and began rejoycing when I saw his shields fall to 99%! Then I began to get kinda scared when lots and lots of these blue balls began flying towards me, and these little fighters began coming out of the ship's hull and swarming me. In a few short seconds, I was but dust. That day, I learned never to shoot at a Confederation Cruiser until you've got the firepower and guts to do so. Oh, those were the days...

The stupidest thing I ever did, was back in EV. I was in a Scoutship, but didn't buy any fuel scoops (ramscoops, as they were called in EV) and I was low on fuel. I ended up jumping into an uninhabited system, with no fuel, and no money to pay anyone FOR fuel, and no fuel scoops. D'oh!

My brand-newbie days were in EV, too. The dumbest thing I did was continual upgrading of every single ship I bought. I moved from my shuttle to a Courier and over time bought everything I could fit on it. Then I saved up for a Clipper and did the same thing. Eventually I moved up to an Argosy, and I must have sunk over 2M creds on that thing. But it would still get constantly reamed by stock 'Vettes and their missles. I didn't understand that you're better off not wasting money on every upgrade available, and that some ships just aren't real suitable for serious combat. Plus, I still was fairly incompetent in combat (I was using pretty much the same tactics as the AI). If I had just saved all the creds I was spending, I would have been able to afford a 'Vette, outfit it, and probably hire some assistance. It was seriously the school of hard knocks for combat piloting and general build-up strategy.

The dumbest thing I did when I started playing Override... was to start playing Override. I barely passed my classes that quarter.

Same here, you shouldn't get too wrapped up in this game, just treat it as a past-time instead of a second life. LoL.

That can be hard to do. If the game is too good, it can be hazardous to your REAL life sometimes. EV/O, Quake, and the Final Fantasy Series have done this to me.

I took on a turncoat in an unupgraded shuttle (i know turncoats are crap but it still beat me). If i do that now the turncoat is the one getting the ass kicking.

The dumbest thing I can think of was attempting any kind of combat while I still had my shuttle. No...wait, perhaps it was trying to pull a Monty Python on a squad of Azdaras. But then of course there's trying to cloak when I'm being fired on. "Uh oh, I'm being swarmed by about 8500 kraits, I think I'll save them the trouble and just drop my shields!".

I had been tring to blow up the Dreadnaught in my UE Destroyer for about 2 weeks, and then, circling around it pumping rockets into it it was finally disabled - and I had 2% armor left. So I went in and opened up with my blaze turrents (maybe using blaze turretns ws the stupidest thing I did). Then I sat back and enjoyed the view as it broke up - and then exploded. However, I forgot that my ship would get damaged by the explosion...

a few seconds later I was kicking myself in my escape pod, wondering how I was going to get a new Destroyer. Oh well, Admiral McPhearson covered the cost in the end...

How about this?

Turning against the whole universe at the beginning, fighting all sorts of fighters,
Kraits (they were easy) becoming pirate and trying to beat everything out there.

And getting blown up by a cargo transporter.

Perhaps I set my goals too high. : )

A CARGO TRANSPORTER?? WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! No, seriously, a cargo transporter? Were you in a Krait or something? Well the dumbest thing I ever did was in EV, when I had just saved up enough for a Defender, which had taken a while. So, I had my Defender, which, if you've played EV, you'd know are THE worst ships in the game. So, I was in my Defender, and targeted a Confed Gunboat. So I thought "Hey, how hard could this one ship be?", so I fired at it with my puny little lasers and I died after 2 or 3 missile impacts. And that was the main reason I started hating the 'feds and joins the Rebels. Dumbest thing I ever did in EV? Took sides in the Strand War.
