    • Fighter Stratgies

I've been losing a lot of fighter lately because of the AI. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to use fighters best?

    • I never use a fighter bay. Sometimes I like to fly an Azdara myself, but fighter bays are so expensive and take up so much space, and you have to replace your fighters every time they get blown up.

I say just get rid of it and buy some more missiles instead.

    • Look, I asked for advice for Fighters, not advice on what oufits to buy. But, anyway, the reply speed is @#$%ing fast!

    • Obviously you're talking about piloting fighters rather than using the ones you carry then.. it was a little ambiguous. Anyway, surely the main thing would be to make good use of fighters' superior speed and manoeuvrability, making things like 'monty pythoning' easier, and also allowing one to make passes over ships, fly far away, and come back somewhat regenerated. Also I'd say dospect armour would be a great thing to have on a fighter if you have the space - people say it can make an azdara invincible, and it can't do any harm to any other ship either :). I would also say that siding with the Zidagar would be a good idea if you're gonna be in a fighter, so that you can receive a systems upgrade for that much needed extra upgrade space, and of course their ECM system for extra protection. Also just thinking, needle missiles would be a rather neat thing to have on board as they only require 15 tons for a launcher, and a decent fighter with 250 ranged, guided missiles on board wouldn't be anything to sneeze at!

    • No, I was talking about the carried ship. What way can I not lose as many fighters?

    • Not much you can do, fighters are controlled independtly; they only follow your orders.

Don't send them after huge wolfpacks of heavy cruisers. Instead, send them after small, light ships that you cannot keep up with. If they start getting whopped, recall them to the mothership and then relaunch.

    • Thanks, I'll try that. If anyone has more, please tell me!

    • They way I use my UE fighters is that when I have them I release all 5 five before I send them to attack. Then I follow right behind them and fire forward of them hitting the target. That way the voinian cruisier fires at me and not my fighters. Then you just finish off the cruisier or whatever. I very rarely lose my fighters in Voinian space using this method.

    • I agree with the advice already offered by OctoberFost and Jubee. Also, it's useful to carry fighters with armour (like UE or Voinian ones), because they can be picked up again even when they're disabled (with the Board command). Fighters that rely on shields rather than armour just get blown up, not disabled. The only really good fighter without significant armour is the Azdara - the shield regeneration rate, the speed, and the fact that you can carry six in one bay more than make up for the lack of armour.

      ------------------
      Question authority. That's an order.

    • Thanks a bunch. Jubee, I do that but my Fighter still get pucked off a lot by fire directed at me, but hit the Fighters.

    • Though I haven't used fighters in AGES, I have maybe a useful technique for you DeadMan. When in a battle, launch your fighters, but don't tell them to attack, until you are within firing range of the target yourself. This way, the target is getting shot at from 6 ships, and will not know which one to fire at. I did this in EV, and a VERY old pilot in EVO, when I was a Crescent Warship. Ahh those days....

      Anyway, I hope this helps.

    • Whatcha want to do in a fighter is pack one of these two things into it...

      A)Primaries galore

B)Nothing but guided weapons, ie. pursuit

With the first one, you go head to head in runs against larger ships and run away until you recharge. With the second you sit out of range until your racks empty out and then go in with whatever primary you have. Works like a charm. 🙂

    • Fighters are only good when you have 50 or so..................

Yes, it is possible. Slows the game down a bit, and limits random ships in
systems to 1 when they are all out.

Use a heavy warship with phase weapons (UE cruisers will work well enough too)
and disable a UE Carrier (this is for UE Fighters). You can stock all the fighters
by stealing them, and soon you have dozens.
