Kayia and South Tip Station immediately responded by launching their defense fleets. Though they knew they were no match for 40 Voinian cruisers, they knew their mission and kept their two goals in mind: Inflict as much damage as possible by destroying carried fighters and taking down afew of the cruisers, and more importantly buy enough time for the complete evacuation of Kayia. Even as the defense fleet launched into battle, hundreds of civilian ships, from Miranu Heavy Freighters all the way down to unarmed transports, lifted off the surface of the planet and began pouring into the hyperlink out of the system.
The Kayan ships in the defense fleet stuck together in a single group, swarming the Voinian cruisers one at a time, attacking until one Cruiser was destroyed, then moving on to the next, while sweeping the enemy fighters aside by the sheer weight of fire their tightly packed formation could deliver. Five of the Cruisers were destroyed in this manner, but the shields of the many ships in the defense fleet were beginning to fall dangerously low. But they knew they had to stay, the evacuation was only half complete. Bravely, they moved on to a sixth cruiser, and a seventh, but they were beginning to fall. They had now suffered 15% losses to their fleet and their shields were nearly gone. By now all but the last civilians had evacuated the system. The few remaining Militia ships led the attack on an eighth Cruiser, which they managed to destroy, but only after taking a total of 35% losses to their fleet. On their damaged viewscreens, they could see the last defenders fleeing into the hyperlink and exiting the system.
The militia leader established a comm connection with South Tip Station. After uploading the station's database to his ship, he wiped the South Tip Station computer, leaving it's memory completely erased. He then did the same to the Kayia computer network. With nothing left to stay for, and their shields failing or already gone, the Kayans let out one last barrage of defense pods, destroying a ninth and a tenth cruiser and disabling three others, and then fled into the hyperlink. The evacuation of Akrahyek was complete.
In all, the Kayans suffered 40% losses to the Akrahyek defense fleets, the rest fleeing into hyperspace. The Voinians lost ten cruisers with 3 disabled, and lost 40% of their carried fighters.

In hyperspace on the way back to Kayan space, Thunder learned of the massacre on Akrahyek. He also learned that once Hindrix and Feviry learned of the attack on Kayia, they decided that it was no longer safe to remain alone, and they had decided to join the Kayan Alliance. It was little consolation, though, for the loss of Kayia.
Still in a state of shock, Thunder sent out two urgent messages.

Daedulus: We need to take action. The Voinians just committed an unprovoked massacre on Kayia and South Tip Station. We had no choice but to evacuate the system. As soon as you have the anti-voinian outfits ready, we need them. Please, hurry!

The Voinians have just destroyed Akrahyek. We need help. It's time we made our alliance formal. You need to defend yourselves from the Azdgari, but if you have any extra ships left over, please help us out.
