    • Kraits are the EVO equivilent of TIE Fighters from Star Wars. They only work well in large numbers, are weak, and have limited weaponry. They can be mass produced, and thus you can get huge swarms of them and then use them to overwhelm the enemy.

      Coming to the (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiaSW.com/games/ev/chronicles.html")EV Chronicles(/url).

    • I think we agree that kraits are something of a threat under certain conditions, but they are hugely overpriced. I can't imagine ever buying a trio of them and launching them into a firefight - my profits would immediately take a 150,000 credit dent.

Carried kraits contain much which is largely unnecessary; a hyperdrive system, fuel tanks, long range communications array, extended life support, cargo space...

I might speak to a contact of mine who runs an experimental shipyard. If parasite kraits had all the unnecessary bits and pieces deleted, they might be much cheaper, and somewhat lighter than conventional 'interplanetary' kraits. If we can engineer the cost for ship-launched kraits down to maybe ten or fifteen thousand credits, and lighten them such that five can be carried in a krait bay, then perhaps they would be more useful.

      What do you think?

    • They would be okay against, non-crecent merchants, and human renegades. But they would still be worthless against the Voinians or anything in the Crecent. however, I could do something like that in EVO Enhancer... I think I will...

    • I've got a new graphic for something that could easily be described as a 'Krait Mk. II', if that's any help.

Put the ex. generator on a Krait, it is so small, your shields shoot up fast enough, that only a HUGE barrage could kill you! I think......

Bah. Why do that when you can do it with an Azdara or Crescent fighter? 🙂

      ------------------

    • Why do it? The point is to make the carried krait fighter a useful outfit resource for players, by simply lowering the cost. At ten or fifteen thousand credits they'd become like an expensive guided missile, which a moderately wealthy player might use.

A cost change wouldn't affect the balance of the game. Changing the effectiveness of the krait would, because it would make encounters with Turncoats in the early phases of the game (and on certain missions) rather traumatic.

Of course, the crescent fighter is also a little on the expensive side... maybe that needs to be economised a little, as well. Maybe reduce the shields and give it a few points of armour instead, so you can bring disabled ones back on board if you have the bay. Hmm...

    • How about just doing that to all of the fighters? It would make sense. However, the crecent fighter is already 1/3 the actual cost - though it is very expensive. I ushally just have a large warship equiped for dealing with other warships and just have fighters to deal with other fighters. And if I get swarmed with too many fighters... Cloak... position behind fighter... uncloak... disperal rocket + a few phase blasts... cloak again... fighter goes boom... repeat until all fighters are dead.

    • The Krait bay is the only human bay you can get, unless you get a Carrier w/ UE fighters. The Krait bay simply gives a little help to the traders who stay in UE space and are frightened of renegades.
PS- VoinianAmbassador, can we SEE this "Krait mk. II?"

    • Okay, I've created a GeoCities webpage, so you can view some of my efforts. I only spent half an hour putting it together, so don't laugh! Since you ask, I've included several views of the Krait Mk. II

      It's at:-

    • Heh heh, it's better than anything I could do. And the Krait doesn't seem to have a windshield, but it's really neat otherwise.

    • Yeah, you're right about the windshield. The final version of the 3D model got corrupted, so all I have left is the sans canopy version. I can soon correct that, but at a sprite size of maybe 24x24 pixels, I don't think you'd notice.

Dang right! Recently I was playing EVO with the "Ejacks" plugin. I was doing the last Huron mission while flying an Assault Frigate (one of the ships in the game) and I flew into the Troub system, ready to kick Renegade behind when all the Turncoats or something launched their Kraits at me. All those Kraits started firing at me and I was shredded to pieces in about 10 seconds or something. Only when I hired four Assault Frigate escorts was I able to complete the mission.

      God bless,

      UE Patriot

    • That's why I always do the Human Renegade missions before i upgrade to a heavy warship. I think the heaviest thing I've done all those missions in is a UE Destroyer.

    • That's about the weakist ships I've done the HR missions in. Call me a gun lover, but if you can't fit AT LEAST 3 Neutron Turrets on it, I hate it.
