    • Flatulence's On Karma & The Search Campaign -- A comparison

So, I was thinking.... the search then ask campaign got a pretty bad rep with the mods of the boards up in these parts.... but, now I ask you something. About the Karma feature. How many people did you get asking about it? I saw thread after thread after thread, all titles "What's up with this Karma stuff?" The question was all the same. And in each thread, did the mods stop and give a cheery explanation like they expect us to do to new people on the EVO board? Nope. They got all hissy and huffy and talked about "reading the guidelines" or "Search for an answer" Even Andrew was doing this... actually I don't know why I say "even Andrew" because he's probably got the most right of all to do that... but, I digress.

Anyway... I don't see why there's a double standard here. The Karma question has been driven into the ground, exactly the same way as the questions concerning "Where to the Zidagar mission start?" or "A poll! Your favorite strand!!" But, whenever we say in a nice and respectful way , "hey, the answer is out there... search for it," we get the evil eye from the various mods who happen upon the thread?

      Your friendly neighborhood irony expert,
      -Flatty

      Thanks for your time.

    • Exactly when did the mods get mad at you for asking someone to search for there answers?

    • Chamrin commented on it. That was the most recent. Others have complained about the search and ask as well.....

cough no thanks to you, ****wit cough

      Sorry. Had something stuck there.

    • As a defender of all mods, I must disagree.

I visited over half a dozen Karma topics, and never once did the mods...

They never did that. The most mean thing they said was "this topic has been discussed many times before". In my opinion, they were very nice.

Read andrew's reply, the second post in the thread.

There are others, I have a big long list of them, but I don't feel like wasting my own time. Waste your own doing a search before you post, next time.

    • Flatty, i must disagree with you here. I saw andrew copy-paste the basic explanation about karma a dozen times. Clicking that link about web board guidelines gives all explanation and anyone can do it. It's simple and complete - all answers are in the guidelines, and there is no way to miss it.

Telling a newbie to search and ask (even in a polite way, which is NOT the way you usually did it) is not the same. He would go to the search page, then type something like 'Zidagar' and press search. Bam. 500 pages found. Which page to click? Which is complete, which answers his exact question? Probably none. While a simple answer from someone who actually knows it is enough. But no, all he hears is to search for it.
Oh, sorry i mean he gets:

      SEARCH...

      THEN...

      ASK!!!!!!!!!

Fighting off newbies is the number one bad thing which apparently almost every single internet community seems to do. At least the leaders here recognize the problem, and then you start using false comparisons to give the impression that you're the victim here. You're not. If 99% of people say you are the problem, you usually are.

    • Sarcas, you're making a mistake. I was always respectful when telling people to go search. I've never typed "SEARCH THEN ASK!!!!" before in my life. (well, until now). And yes, Andrew answered some questions. So do we. My point is, it's the same thing. If anyone asks about Karma now, they're met with a firm "go read the guidelines".. I'm saying that this shouldn't be any different from a "go search"

If people have trouble searching..... well, I don't see how that's my problem. From now on, perhaps I'll tell people exactly what words to search for. I dunno. I was just pointing out the double standard as I see it.

If you are convinced there's any kind of double standard at work here, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But i don't think there is. And i believe most people will agree with me on that.

    • Titan -- no one asked you. You're the little **** who posted my image (which was made to be a one time showing, as a joke) in every thread. You're the ****wit who always had to add your own "SEARCH THEN ASK" to every thread, even if the post directly above you was telling the same thing. You're the idiot who gave us a bad rep. So, I'd shut my mouth if I were you.

Sarcas -- Well, then our opinions differ. Yes, I believe there is a little double standard going on. That's what my first post is all about. This message was mainly to Chamrin, who was the person who berated me for telling people to search, but whatever. I respect your opinion as well, and anyone who shares yours.

      peace.

Anyway... yeah, I agree, Andrew was pretty gracious about it. However, he still was telling people at the end to go find the info for themselves.

      Peace 🙂

    • Just a question about karma.
And i read the guidelines. How do one get better karma? It's actually diffecult to do good deeds on the boards.
And how do one get it lower, i've already had Jude nagging me about my signature.
Mean my old, he didn't say anything about the new 😄
Otherwise it just get lower from posting bad words and harasing people, or what?

Thats why I don't yell at people to search anymore.

    • Opalius -- I'm guessing if you start a thread with a good discussion topic, you get more karma..... and maybe if you're really helpful to someone... or you brown-nose. As for losing karma (Something I am quite good at), just fight with Andrew. it's that simple 🙂

Titan -- How bleeding noble of you.

You're wrong Flatty. Andrew said nothing in any sort of mean or offending way.

Oh, and Flatty. You may not have yelled "SEARCH THEN ASK!!!" but when you did say it you were NOT nice about it.

    • Carn -- not true. I always tried to incorporate some witty sentence with the word "search" into it. And we've already been over the fact that Andrew was good about it.

forge -- yeah, that would be much better 😄

Alien -- that's right. And unfortunately, you got all the others along with you, including our friend Titan.... I pity you 😄

And yes, our little campaign is dead.... but, I can still remind people when they ask questions that have been asked a million times before. It's my personal right. (and everyone else's).

    • I think the mods have been pretty nice to everyone, given the amount of times they've been asked the same question. Flatty, in the post that you pointed out, the question was asked by UEG--not quite the most popular character around these boards, and certainly no favorite of andrew. And though, generally, you were way nicer than the "SEARCH...THEN...ASK" people (I mean the imitations coughTitancoughhackwheezegoomeistercough, not Alien), you did go ballistic a few times about people who didn't want to search or couldn't find any results because they spelled "Zidagar" "Zidgarari" or something. The point is that the mods only (usually) got mad when multiple people told newbies to search, or one person did it especially meanly. That's it, gotta go... Take what I said as you will, but there aren't any hidden meanings or moderator-sucking-up in it. Have a nice day. 🙂
