So then how did they do things like the Andgari Arada? Does the game think of it as truly a different ship or as a modified Arada that just happens to look like an Arada? Just curious, cause that IS the ship I fly after I've done all the early missions and just want to drive an indestructible tank.

Go ahead and ditch the unlimited persuit missles though. Does 45 sound reasonable? This IS a cruiser after all. That ship has a ton of space after you empty it.

As for the others, let's go with 5 Phase Turrets, 3 persuit launchers, 45 persuit missles, Azdara bay and 12 Azdaras, and ah, what the hell, let's go with three needle launchers and about 100 needle missles.

The Azdgari Arada is a different ship than the Arada. A përs has one of the in-game ships, with a few modifications. They say different things, are part of different governments, have different shields, etc. A përs is intended to make it more like there's a person piloting the ship, not just some nameless pilot. When a përs gets destroyed, either an escape pod comes out and the live on (but hating the person who destroyed their ship) or no escape pod comes out and they die. When they die, they won't ever come back (under that pilot file) again. It's intended to imply that there are other people out there doing what you're doing. It adds a semi-multiplayer experience to the game. So with the weapons, I'm sure you don't just buy a ship and never upgrade it at all. No, you add missle launchers, fighter bays, better cannons, etc. So do përses. That's what makes them different from any standard ship. But you can only add up to four extra outfits.
