I've noticed that on all common planets, the defense fleets goes out to attack you, and you only. Your escorts chase the enemy ships and shoot at them and blow them up. However, on the big main planets, the defense fleets will attack your escorts, just like normal ships in the system do. I guess my question is, why? why not have all planets fleets attack your escorts? Perhaps then you could cut down on the sheer size of the fleets?

I don't know why the fleet's only attack you at some planets and attack your escorts at others.

Interesting thought though.
I always thought that the fleet attacked you because you were the one who was demanding a tribute. I send my escorts and fighters after the fleets, and then get them in a big fight. In my experience the defense fleets attack your escorts if they attack first. (A long and confusing way of saying it, but it's true)

Are you sure? I think the little planets go for you, and the big ones go after your escorts first.
