    • Plugs ruining gameplay?

      Ok... a little survey/quiz/thingamajig here.

Do you personally think that plugins are ruining the game?

Personally, I think that the unlimited outfits plugs are really doing us all in, as are plugs that give you "new, improved" weapons. I've been reading posts all over of people who talk about some weapon that they got from a plug and are trying to justify using. The simple matter is, if it's not part of the main game, it doesn't matter how much time the plug-author spent on calculating the exact damage to price ratio, what matters is the fact that it does not belong. That's for the new outfits plugs.... but, what about the unlimited outfits plug? I think those are just as bad.... I was reading a topic the other day (well... a while ago) titled "what's your favorite personalized ship"... many people wrote in their favorites (popular being modified azdaras)... anyway, about half of the people who listed off their ship's extras had: "1 shield enhancer, 1 exp shield enhancer, 1 zidagar ecm, 1 plasma siphon.... sheeesh. There's a reason why you only work for one government in the game, folks...

As for plugs like F25 and ROTV (and 2), I must say that I enjoyed them very much. But, that's not what this is about. This quiz/whatever is about the plugs that give new outfits. (or all outfits)

Anyway, that's my two cents. Lemme know what you think. And if this topic has been posted before, well, I didn't see it, and if you bitch about it, that's your problem, not mine.

      Flame away.

    • I've got to agree with you. It pains me to see fellow EVOers using plugs that let you get all outfits and work for all governments and such. There's a place for that, but you shouldn't advertise your "Azdara of Doom" or whatever unless you can get it without using such Plugs. I'm not saying nobody should use those plugs, but you shouldn't rely on them to complete tough missions like the "Attack the Rock" mission. I have no problem with plugs like EVO plus and ROTV. They are fun and challenging.

      ------------------

    • The only time I ever used a cheat plug was when I just wanted to see what outfits were in the game, before I discovered the wonders of ResEdit. Since then, I haven't used any outfit expansions or work for all gov't plugs (I've asked about them, like the triple agent plug, but that was for my brother who loves to cheat and stinks at the game without cheats. I did say I didn't want to work for the Zidagar anymore, but the best solution to that problem of mine was to just start over from my last backup). Of course, I have made cheat plug-ins, but those have just been for fun and my brother (if anyone here is interested, one of them should be uploaded to my website--link below--in the plugs section within the next week and maybe even the weekend).

I agree with you there. I don't play them much...the only one I've played recently is CompuWars...but I do love designing plugs that are purely plot and mission expansions. Of course, my plugs do have new ships, but they're not all-powerful or anything. Omnipotent ships are just no fun to play with. You always know they can win.

    • Ok, once again, I hate to be critical of stuff, but....

Without a doubt, this would be one of the dumbest questions I've heard in a long time! Please, no offense is meant by that, let me explain. Plugs are what have made EV/EVO so successful. They give the game endless possibilites, but ONLY IF THE PLAYER WANTS THEM! If you dispise cheater plugs; well then, no prob! All you have to do is... nothing! And if you do like 'em, go download 'em and grab all the outfits and ships you want! There are no outfit plugs that are "really doing us all in" becuse those of us who like the original stuff stick with it... those who like new (sometimes unbalanced) outfits download and enjoy them. Sorry, but I don't think it's fair to criticize people for enjoying EVO more. Oh, and you can easily work for multiple governments...

hmmm... I think you missed a bit of my point. I'm reading the message boards, and I see people bragging about their godly ships with all sorts of cheat plug modifications. This is what I hate. People saying that certain missions were easy, people saying that their ship is much more powerful, and a whole load of other crap. You're right, plugs make the game endless... well, no, you're not right. Mission plugs make the game endless. Not cheat plugs. If all you had was cheat plugs, it'd just make the game easier, not endless. Unfortunately, you're talking about the missions plugs (like F25, etc, etc) that make the game a lot more fun. Also unfortunately, I commended those. I have a lot of respect for the people who took their time to put together a mission, storyline, new races, etc, etc, to make the game more fun, and "endless". However, the cheat plugs do not do this. They give people false senses of ability, like they can beat the game (the main game, not add-on plugs) very easily. Well, that's just not right.

There's my 2 cents (or, ˘, if you want to be REALLY cool).

    • I agree, cheat plugs divide the winners from the losers....

Losers think they suck and insist on cheating... but I don't consider the TAP a cheat...

    • I don't like using the chea tplugs but I did use it on one of my pilot files before the Dreadnought mission. I did not make a super ship or use the forklift though. I used it to experience fighting the dread. in different ships and different races. And with the outfits that came with said race. It was fun. My fav was using the Mira. H. Freighter. It was one of the easiest ships to use. Also can anyone back up what flatulence wrote about working for 2 strands at the same time. He said you could first work for the Iggies and then the Ziddes. Just wonder if anyone else had accomplished this. If so aare ther anymore combs of strands that are possible?

Ah, I see. My point was that if people like using cheat plugs, more power to them. And you point was that if they do, don't go bragging about it. I get it now. Totally agree with you.

    • cheat plug-ins like Override edge are stupid and useless but plugs like triple agent are okay so you don't have to replay the game to play for another strand. so what if they had outfits from three strands, they EARNED them. if you are done with the game, yeah a cheat ship would be okay( not a real cheat ship, just a shipe with cool weapons) but you should not use them while in the process of beating the game

    • I agree with most of the people here, that cheat plugs are kinda dumb. I mean, it's fun every once in a while to create a super ship and fly around the galaxy, but that gets old fast. The true fun of the game (in my opinion, and beside the plots) lies in modifying your ship to your personal standards, then using tactics to win fights. However, if people enjoy using cheat plugs, then that's their choice. That's why the game is so adaptable, right? And not all cheat plugs are bad. Money plugs, in my opinion, make it possible to play the game without wasting hours running commods back and forth. Of course, that's just my opinion.

      ------------------

    • well, I never have had too much experience with plugins....first off, way back when i used to watch my brother play ev at school, i remember he got a really cheap plugin that gave him heaps of money and pretty well indestructible ship....i.e. a cheater plug. i agree with zhouj about using cheater plugs to finish the game....they suck. but if u r done with a pilot (i.e. pretty much all the important missions done, and can no longer easily switch sides) then it is pretty cool up to a point. case in point: when i was first learning to use resedit, i had a kestrel, good escorts, all rebel missions done, etc. and i made a little plugin that made the kestrel have lots and lots of shields, armor, etc. missles and other outfits (and launchers) weigh and cost little or nothing, stuff like that, then i bought a couple hundred missles, made another plug to jack the cost of missles up to like a hundred million credits, sold them, took it out, then went and killed a whole bunch of stuff. but it did get old.
i have never tried a mission expanding-type plug, but i mean to soon. anyway, the only other plug i have used is the planetgraphics plug (for evo), but it messed up asteroids and ultimately destabilized executor, so i took it out.

      so that's my $0.02 (or is it $.020000000000001? 😛 )

One sign you've been playing EV/O too long:
If you play a racing game and you keep shifting into neutral (then reverse...) because you're trying to use afterburners.

Alrighty, just a miscommunication then... good stuff 🙂 I agree with you, they can be good for trying out new ships, weapon combos, etc, etc. I hadn't even thought about that when I was posting. I was talking about the godly-ships-beating-the-game thing.

      I haven't seen any such posts. . .
I would, however, like to brag about a ship I am proud of, the R.S.S. Tarnished Glory! I took a crescent starship, sold every outfit, except for one phase turret, then I got the three movement upgrades. As and after I worked for the voinians, I got 3 neutron turrets, and two more layers of armor. Works like a charm against emalghan and UE ships! I guess what I tried to do was take the best of the crescent and the voinians and combine it. . .

    • the only outfit that i really miss in the original ev is the neutron turret from Empire. And that the turret ranges in ev suck. so if you tripple the range, its much harder to monty python, so it makes the game harder. My favourite ship of all time was my modified blockade runner. It had mass expansions galore, speed of 600, 260 shield (after 30 ton mod.), 40 armor, 3 neutron turrets and torps. Aaaahhhhh!
