    • To Warbird, or Not To Warbird... (Warning contains img)

Ok, Troy finished making his EV3 Romulan Warbird, but I think the previous one is better, he thinks the latter is better. The Newer one is a lighter shade of green, which I dislike, but he ensures me all of the Romulan ships will have that color soon enough...

So, what's it gonna be, we'll let the fans break the tie:

      New one?
      Or Old one?

    • The new. It's more realistic. The green CAN get a bit stronger though...

    • New one. Definitely more realistic; Romulan ships aren't that green.

Um, dude, Borg ships are BLACK, not green. Sheesh.

      Holy flying butt gravey. I can't believe I just said that. I am a Trekky, aren't I?

Oh, btw, I like the new one.

    • Borg ships are green with black panels scatterd all over them. And I like the one on the left better.

    • Guys: Borg ships are really unusual in that they don't really have sides. It's as if the decks were just cut off and the air is contained with forcefields. (this is my visual interpretation, anyway...someone with more official ST knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong)

They are dark metal...blacks in shadows, metallic highlights in bright light and otherwise generally dark metallic grey. The green seen is from lights inside the ship seen through from the outside reflecting off walls and out into space.

      ...I think.

      Am I right?

BTW I like the one on the left. Though, it could be a BIT more saturated of a green.

That is the conclusion we came to.

The Borg should look like this:

And you description describes it near perfectly.

    • Personally, I prefer the surface detail of the first one (the darker green one), and the color of the second, lighter one -- but should it really be that light?. Combine those two, and I think you have a winner.

Though I bet that if you took the first one (darker green) and just dropped the saturation down, it'd look really nice too -- in other words, a darker green than the one on the left, but less saturated than the one on the right.

Well, the problem with the dark green one is that it doesn't look like a Romulan Warbird. It has the basic shape, but when you compare it to the lighter green one, there's no question which one to use.

Thanks, I've run the idea by Troy and he is going to see if he can implement your suggestion to see how it looks. I didn't like it that light either, so Troy is going to bring it down a bit and give it a whirl.

The shape problem isn't because of the textures, it is because Troy redid the whole model (in less than a day too! albeit a full day, but sightly less than 24 hours!) so, I'm going to give Andrew's idea a whirl and post it up and you guys can choose which ship to use.

      drool

How'd you ever get that much detail in? For me it's not a technical matter of not actually being able to add such things, but of thinking them up. I've always been amazed at borg ships, that someone had to think of the details (put a plate here, and a thingy there, and a pipe over there etc.). How did you (he?) think of/imagine/decide on the details themselves...? Do you understand me? Am I rambling? One of those I know the answer to... 😉

    • The pics look dithered or in 8-bit or something, any chance of a JPG?

    • Just a quick 'nother mention about the borg and the ship you (Metzen) had shown (you're gonna hate me for this ;))...it looks like a small borg vessel. A full-size cube would have like 20x the detail fineness on each side... :frown:

Though it is still very good in itself.

Okay, I don't have the original warbird on hand (it's archived on CD somewhere by now...) so, here you go:

      Posted Image

It's compressed using QT since QT at a higher resoulution allows lower file size (accroding to Graphic Converter).

I'll see if I can dig up the Borg. I've repartitioned my drive in anticipation for OS X (ten)!
