    • [admin] EV/EVO storyboard?

As many of you know, I am knee-deep in redesigning the escape-velocity.com web site (as well as all of our "product" web sites, and the Ambrosia web site as a whole -- it's a large project).

One of the cool things I've come up with is a "story" display system, which we're now using for our online newsletter, The Ambrosia Times. This system allows stories to be posted (complete with formatting and images), the current "featured" story is displayed on the main page, older stories are archived & searchable, and people can easily add their comments to the stories.

I think it's a neat system; you can see an example of it in use here:

      (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=14")http://www.AmbrosiaS...opics&number=14(/url)

To the point of this post: I got to thinking about the number of stories I'd seen people write about EV/EVO over the years, and I'm considering making a "soapbox"/"notes from the underground" section on the escape-velocity.com web site where users can submit stories about EV/EVO and/or editorials of some fashion about EV/EVO.

Of course, these stories would be reviewed by an admin from the community before they went live, and they'd be posted no more frequently than once a week, to ensure that everyone's story/editorial got a fair shake as the featured article.

So, that do you think? Anyone think this is a good idea, and would like to see it happen?

    • I like...

Would the stories be limited to EV/EVO? At ATMOS we have created a number of stories detailing a little about either the history or cultural nakeup of the major societies within the game (We did this to better understand the beast(s) we had created).

Also, roughly how long until ready?

Sure, stuff like this would be fine -- as long as it's related to EV/EVO in one way or another.

    • I'm definitely interested! Like I said in my e-mail, contact me about it. Thanks.
Also, I think stories about EV/O, stories about playing EV/O, and stories filling in the background and history of EV/O would all be cool. How would you handle serials?

I'm not sure what you're asking about -- if you're asking about the story pages, yep, they are up:

      (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/chronicles.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...chronicles.html(/url)

If you're asking about how we're handling serial stories, currently I think Jude is releasing them each as individual stories -- I think it might make sense to release them all at once (but still as seperate stories) just to make it easier to read. This assumes that all of the chapters are submitted at once, of course.

    • That's what I was getting at...

Couldn't you compile them so they'd all appear in the same place, even if they were submitted separately? It'd make such a difference...

And perhaps, instead of a "Subject" field, there could be three fields, "Game" "Title" and "Author's Name" - it'd make identifying the story you want much, much easier.

Why does everyone have some quasi-amusing quote at the end of their signature file?

      I am not afraid.
