Where can I find the Disco Bison?

Why? Do you have a death wish or something? Seriously, though, the DS is a përs that pops up erratically, flying what appears to be an Emalgha warship. I repeat, appears. 😉

    • hehehe, I think I lasted about 10 seconds against the DB, in a souped-up UE Cruiser. I had to find out, though. My curiousity got the better of me.

Anyway, it's something I plan on doing sometime, is killing the Disco Bison. I just need to work out a way to do it...

The Bison, I think... only shows up in Crescent space. I could be wrong about that, but I seem to recall reading something like that under the resource templates.

A woman came up to me and said, "I'd like to poison your mind. With wrong ideas that appeal to you, though I am not unkind."

    • No, the Disco Bison does not only appear in Crescent Space. I found the Bison in the Sol system, fairly early in the game. I made the mistake of attacking the ship.

"Join the Icelandic Coalition -- or be killed!" Someone should understand that.

    • I defeated the Disco Bison. Unfortunately, My Dad got really pissed off at my being addicted to the game and deleated the pilot who did so. With an upgraded UE Cruiser, I demanded tribute from either a voinian or Azdgari system (with multiple worlds and a shipyard). when they came at me, I dodged their fire and they accidentally hit the DB, causing it to attack the fighters. If their are enough fighters, the DB will eventually disable (30 minutes, I counted) and you can finish off the remnants of the fighters, dominate the system and plunder and try to capture the DB.

Kill two birds with one stone. 😄

    • What's so cool about the DB? Describe what the weapons are like. Is it just so cool it's unbeatable?

    • yeah, i made a plugin using the alwayspers field for the syst resource to make him show up in sol every time... never really did anything else though... also noticed there is a disco bison machine gun weap, but no outfit, so its just a little easter egg i guess

    • Many of the ships that have names are not normal. Does that make sense? In 1.0.2, some of the "personal" ships have weapons that are not normally found on that ship type. In the Igadzra system, a "personal" Azdara killed 3 Igadzra Aradas, and 2 Igazras, and then it turned and killed me. In another pilot, the ISS so-so, used a tractor beam, and neutron turrets. The Acetone, or another M Freighter uses neutron turrets. Is there anything special about the UES Incontrovertible? I almost killed the Disco Bison with an Azdara, but only from staying behind it.

    • until someone comes up with a plugin that allows you to capture the Disco Bison with its systems intact, it is not worth the effort to try and capture it. I did it one time and it reverted to a regular E. warship without the extra shields, machine gun, or SAE modules.

    • Forewarned is forearmed. I'd read you guys' discussion about Disco Bison some time ago, and I was intrigued. Last night I was cruising in the Mark system, and who should drop out of hyperspace right in front of me, but our old friend the D.B.

I wasn't using my usual Voinian pilot file. I was spending a bit of time playing as Maximus, on a personal quest to dominate the Strand cultures. (Start with the Azdgari; their planetary defense forces are easy!) Maximus uses a heavily modified Igazra.

I'd been boarding ships and taking fuel and credits - hadn't landed for hours... if I died, I would have lost a lot of 'work', but how often do you see the D.B.? Not often. I decided to go for it, and opened fire on the sucker. A storm of SAE fire lashed out right away.

Did I mention my escort? Two Zidaras, Two Azdgari Warships and a Bounty Hunter Crescent Warship, all captured. They threw themselves into the fight with enthusiasm, all pumping out fighters and secondary weapon fire. Since I'd heard of the Disco Bison's combat prowess, I hit the afterburner, and stayed out of range. I figured five warships and nineteen fighters ought to suffice, and if they weren't enough there was no way I was going to hang around!

I monitored the 'Bison and saw his shield percentage drop steadily. There was a confusing mass of sound; beams, cannon, missiles and fighter launches. I wear headphones when I play - it was intense.

It became clear that the 'Bison was going down, so I nudged myself back into visual range to watch his demise. One of my Zidaras folded, and most of the fighters were gone, but the 'Bison was defeated. I suppose I should have called off my dogs and attempted to board, but when there's so many munitions flying around, it's hard to find the very fine line between disabled and destroyed. Even with shields gone, I suspected the 'Bison would still be dangerous.

The 'Bison blew up. There was no escape pod. Utter vandalism on my part, but that fits Maximus' philosophy well. I enjoyed it. The fight can't have lasted 30 seconds.

      Thanks, all, for the information!

    • Wait, wait, wait, wait... Are you saying that the DB is a tough fighter????

      That's impossible...

      Or I'm really lucky...

BECAUSE I BEAT HIM IN A STRAIGHT OUT SLUG-FEST WITH A UE CARRIER!!!!! First time I encountered him too....

Are you guys and gals sure???? Let me re-tell the story...

I was in Crescant space headed for Mira in the peace mission.. I was headed through the large un-inhabited space between UE and Miranu. I was running the routine scan when I saw an Elmalgaian Frieghter fly onto the screen!! "What the FART!??" I said.. I knew Elmalgaian rarely left their space... So I scanned him..

'Disco Bison..' Nice name.. I thought..

'The Disco Bison LUVS disco music!!' Okay whatever.. I thought..

Hailed... Said something about having blisters on his brain... I didn't like him, so I attacked.. Launched my fighters and went in for the kill!!

By this time he had reached the planet in the area. Several Miranu were leaving so it was just me, him, and lady luck! I opened fire at long range, he turned to counter but I was already over him, then my fighters struck.. We pounded him relentlessly until.. BOOM! He was gone, didn't even get a chance to board him.. I Don't remember if he had an escape pod... I lost two fighters, and my shields were around 50%!!

Very funny, now beam down my clothes. These ladies look rest-less..... uh-oh...

    • Oh and Jack, I have the answer to that...

      50% of the time... YES.

I once encountered a human frieghter with FIVE VIONION TURRENTS. I have also encountered that Azdara you spoke of.. He was even tougher then the DB. I escaped him.. And that Igzadra with tracter beams... Never fought him, just watched..

    • Was the freghter called the "Andrew welsh" or the "Matt birch" 'cause every time I see him I beat him in my modified cres warship. He has the turrets but I think he has the same shields as a regular freghter.

      I think it's called the A.S.S. Frivolous
I had a lazira with the plasma siphon and I could only take down the shields to about 80%. Eventually I figured out theat I couldn't win so I gave up.

"Arthur Philip Dent?" pursued the alien in a kind of efficient yap.

    • He... that is one tough cookie to kill... I had my heavily modified Cresc. Warship (and I mean heavily... like actually so heavily I was cheating) while I was testing revenge, and DB turned up, and after having dispatched with a dozen or so Igadzra, and not even scratching my paintwork, I engaged him...

      Big mistake...

Within about 30 seconds, I was space-dust... A tip to newbies... stay behind him... that gun of his is seriously dangerous

Mind you, I did get him down to his armour, but that is one tough ba$tard to kill...

    • Most of those were easy to kill. And for the others...

Well, I have 2 Igazra Escorts, 2 UE Cruiser Escorts, and 2 Adzgari Warship Escorts, and I have a UE Cruiser, with a mine layer. Without cheating, I send all my escorts/fighters at the ship I want to kill, and if they die, I go in and use my mines, then engage it turret to turret. I have done all this without cheating.
