Hi,

I finally did the Cyclops in. And got the General to give me the orders.

So now I have completed the "warn the guards" quest. I have another quest (find the artifact) and a couple old ones (find the dark fairy, find that dude in the forest of Perugo(?) )

I am trying not to spoil the game for others, so I will try to be elliptical. I have found the following : all the tunnel entries except the southernmost ones and the one at the very top between the Valley one and the Berglum one; found a cave at the top right with nothing interesting in it; found and explored the lava cave (what does one do with a black dragon tooth, pray tell??); found the cave with the elderly gentleman (elf?) and nothing else in it; and found the cave in the rock face in the far north; can't figure out how to survive the baddies in this one....

Where are the ruins of High Garrendal? Are they the ones one screen north of the Wyrm valley entrance or the ones east of the Plains of Winds?

How do I get to that Perugo Forest thing?

Where are the ruins of High Garrendal? On the road to Burglum, head north to the moutains. but you need to get the elf missions to get into HG.

How do I get to that Perugo Forest thing? thats south across the lake from the plains of endless wind. about 4 screens south 1 east past the lake

You give the black dragon tooth to the elf who is in the bottom level of the cave in the plain of endless winds. (He will give you a quest for it if you have gotten the order of season quest at the learning tree. Since you have the tooth already, when he tells you to go find it, just leave and immediately return and give it to him. :))

Go directly North after you cross the bridge over the river between gwyden camp and Berglum. You will come to a crypt that takes you into High Garendall. You need a special key to get in. You get the key after you do a series of quests for the elf in the cave and the druid at the learning tree.

From your post, it sounds like you have rescued the general from the swamp for Septembris and have warned the guards at Dernath and Berglum. If you haven't done so, be sure and go back and talk to the general you rescued from the swamp. He will be standing outside a tent above the trees to Septembris's place. He gives you a neat item for your help.

As for the cave in the north rockface, take lots of potions when you go in. It's worth it to kill all the bad guys in the cave and get the gold and stuff from the rockpiles and chests. The best armor in the game can be found for free here in one of the chests if you manage to beat the death knights and ghouls that guard it. Goodluck.

Go through the same cave you went through when you went across the varendeep (sp) lake and found the lava cave in the skull. Once across the lake, keep heading south. You will find another cave with a crypt like place inside. Make sure you go through all the screens inside this cave. You will find the guy in there who can give you the awareness skill.

let me get this straight:

To get the "symbol" from High Garrendal, I need the key
To get the key, I must hand the elf his dragon tooth (and prolly do a few more errands for him)
To get the elf to notice me, I must get the druid to give me the "order of season" quest.

Sounds like a plan.

Now my problem is that the druid keeps telling he's too busy to talk to me. Apparently I am supposed to search the Tree for the "orders". I have access to level 2 and am at wit's ends.

I did the first part. Never occured to me to search for "order of seasons".

Duh.

Of course all those games are for young people with spanking new hardly ever used brains. Not old foggies like me.
