    • Rebel and then Confed Missions

Is it possible after completing the Rebel mission string (destroy alien battlecruiser),
to start on Confederate mission string? I purchased the fake ID to make myself clean in Confederate planets. Also I'm in a Rebel battlecruiser, is that gonna be a problem?

      Thanks

    • You won't be able to do that without cheating around a bit. Completing (or even beginning) either of the two mission strings will set a thingy called "mission bit" which forever keeps you from getting missions of the opposite side.

edit: and welcome to the boards. 🙂

    • Heres how you do both: accept Transport Important documents mission, the start of the Confed string. Dont do it. Accept Deliver Rebel Parcels, the start of the Rebel string. You can do a string, while still being able to do other the because it sits in your mission list.

    • Instead of starting all over again, can I just use ResEdit and change the mission bits?

      ------------------

    • That sounds like it might work. You'd just need to pick some bits that aren't going to be set by some other missions you might do.

Or maybe you could change the bit info in the Rebel and Confed strings so that you can still get their missions; you'd need to get rid of the part where it says something like "bit must be clear" and make sure that the number there isn't a bit that is involved in the opposing string. Or just put -1 in the place where "bit must be clear" or something like that.

      I think that works.

      Good luck.

      Peace,
      Solel

    • Using Solel's mentioned mission bit clearing method is a pretty straight-forward ResEdit fix. You'll need to get the ResEdit templates from the Add-On files section on this site to being working with the EV Data files. They're just a resource that you need to copy either into the data file you're working with or the ResEdit preferences file in your system folder.

      Anyways, Operational Instructions:

1 - Open the file labled "EV Data" in ResEdit.
2 - open up the resource group labeled "mďsn"
3 - Locate Mission 171 (Transport Confed Documents)
4 - Locate the field "AvailBitSet" and replace the default value (1044) with -1
5 - Locate the field "AvailBitClr" and replace the default value (43) with -1
      6 -Save it.
7 - Fire up EV and head for Confed Space. It'll be available at any confederate planet with a bar.

All this fix does is disable the missions auto-mission-bit checks allowing you to start the Confederate String regardless of your Rebel Status.

And for kicks, here's the Rebel de-bitting operation (Just in case you've run through the Confed string)

1 - Follow steps One and Two of the Confed De-Bitting operation
2 - Locate Mission 172 (Transport Rebel Parcels)
3 - Locate the field "AvailBitSet" and replace the default value (1043) with -1
4 - Locate the field "AvailBitClr" and replace the default value (44) with -1
      5 - Save it.
6 - Fire up EV and head for Rebel Space. It'll be available at any rebel planet with a bar.

Edit: In response to your being in a Rebel Cruiser, Yes that will most likely be a problem. The Rebel military ships all have a government bit that indicates that they are in fact Rebel ships. Confederates don't like that much and regardless of your standing with them, will attack just about any Rebel ship they see. Firing on them at all will immediately drop your legal status with the confederation to the point where you won't be able to obtain any of their missions. Your best bet is to head for Yemuro in the Kathoon system and pick yourself up a nice new Kestrel. Run through the confed string with that and you'll be fine. If you ever need a better legal status with the confederation, try picking up a few decently sized freighter escorts (Light freighters work well) and you'll be attacked by pirate fighters virtually everywhere you go. Blast them for a legal-status boost in most systems.

    • I've set Availbitclr and Availbitset to -1, but I couldn't get the mission. So to be sure, I've also set random to 100. Still i don't get the mission. I've been to several planets, and few times on each one. Also i've switched to Confederate Cruiser (by capturing w/ my rebel cruiser). Am I doing something wrong?

thanks for all the help ppl

    • I got it now after I modified AvailRating and AvailRecord fields.

AJ: So did I be wrong when I said that it works when you accept the first Confed mission, then the first Rebel one, and then do a string while keeping the other mission on the list? I have read that earlier, but not tried. Or was it just too much bother to start over and SkyRaider wants to get both immediately?

You were right. You can accept one, then the other while the first is still in your mission list. I just figured he was already through the rebel string and didn't want to start over.

As for the available rating and available record fields, it was probably the latter that fixed it for you. Working for the rebels builds up a pretty negative balance with the confederation. Your Combat Rating should be just fine for the rest of the string after you defeated the aliens for the Rebels.
