I was doing the Astrodyne V mission and I failed it. I found the executive transport I was supposed to board to steal weapons technologies from, but some stupid Rebel destroyer came along and blasted it before I could get to it! I then got the MISSION FAILED message. I should have done a self-destruct to reset the mission, but I did not think about that. Well now I can't get this mission back in the spaceport bars. What do I do? Is there a way to hack EV with ResEdit and get this one mission back?

The easiest way to get it back is to use Res-Edit to check what bit got set when the mission failed, and create another mission that clears that bit and is available all the time. Just acept it, complete it, and then remove the plug-in.

Well I'm not really sure how to do what you suggest. While I'm no expert, I do know enough ResEdit to probably get by with some pointers. Any more help would be great.

Rick Hardslab is the more greator!
And there is always a way to abort a mission if you do the wrong thing. This works in any version of ev, evo, or evn.
In space, simply press escape and then re-open your pilot. (or you can waste 30 extra seconds and do the more rewarding self destruct)
On a planet, if you did something you regret, completing a bad mission, or accepting a bad one, or selling something you cant buy back, then FORCE QUIT. If you leave the planet, its saved. If you force quit it is never saved and when you open it again you are at the previous planet and the stupid mistake is undone. This is because it only saves when you leave a planet.------------------

Why is self-destruct more rewarding? I think its only more gruesome. Its saved when you land on a planet. Just reload your pilot before you land.
