    • The EV Trilogy

didn't know which board to post this in - so i decided to stick with the original.
My question is: are the three EV's in anyway connected, their universes? or are they
      just seperate altogether.
From what i see, EVN is definately its own thing, but EVO seems like it wanted to be a prequel to EV. Its calendar is earlier, humans are one, and an alien race invades.
      wondering.

    • The universes of the three games are in no way connected to one another.

    • :chuckles. Oh, I have never seen that kind of post. The three universes are different, miszsions different, but Why No change for EVN? You can do them one by one as a plug.

      ------------------

    • They are intended to be seperate. Any similiarities are probably coincidental. There are not that many different things you can do in this type of game.

      ------------------

    • I thought the EV:O was the sequel to EV and in the same universe, only set in a later time. I coulda' sworn I read that somewhere, I mean, half the planets in the system and the same. Right?

    • As far as i know, they were supposed to be seperate. Nova is completely different for sure.

If any of the planets or systems have the same names as those in previous installments, it's because A: they're actual names of real solar systems or B: the design team got lazy.

They didn't do near as many engine changes for EV:O as they did for Nova. EV:O is quite similiar engine wise, but the storyline is rather incompatable with EV.

    • For the record, both Override and Nova began as Total Conversion plug-ins; both so impressed Ambrosia (Andrew) that they were developed along with improvements to the EV engine as complete games. And each takes place in a different universe, though there is some overlap especially in system and planet names and some ship type names

    • Odd that I didn't see this mentioned, but EVO takes place 100 years game time before EV takes place. It's natural to assume that the Voinians might be the Aliens from EV (obvious tech differences aside) but it's still a serpate game. As jomor pointed out, both of them were developed from TC plugs which ASW took an interest in. As far as Nova goes, part of the main reason is because there were a lot of things that ATMOS wanted to do which they couldn't with the EVO or EV engines, that's why there are so more engine changes between EVO and EVN than between EV and EVO.

And Matt picked it up and developed the new engine! Woohoo, I think I got it!

I'd assume it was more along the lines of ASW asking Matt Burch to do the engine.

    • Hence Nova being the end of the series.

      ------------------

    • yeah, it's quite clear nova is all new - but that's news to me about the games starting out as TC's. Pretty neat.
The reason I was wondering if EV:O was connected to EV was due to the very fact Applewater pointed out - it being 100 years earlier. So I was wondering if it could've been a prequel and the Vonians were aliens, if this was Official or not. Guess not.
But there is a plug-in that adapted this idea, trying to prequelize EVO by adding in a little stint with the aliens and so forth.
I think it was called Beyond the Cresent, for Override.
      Thanks for all the input.

    • The most likely reason that EVN is a lot different than EV and EVO is that they were developed by different people. I don't know who did EV/O, but it sure wasn't ATMOS.

Peter Cartwright did for EVO what ATMOS did for EVN.
