    • I still have EVC and probably will for a long time. Reason, like most people, plug-ins and stuff. Infact, I decided to do EVSI, you know, like (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evo&category;=plugins&display;=rating&file;=EVOSI1.0.0.sea.hqx")EVOSI(/url), except that it is for the classic version. Im almost done with it because I had the graphics that I had done earlier during the making of EVOSI, I think that all is left is to do the main screen titles and intro titles.

After that, I will do some EVSI conversion for popular EVC TCs but I will not release them because I don't have the rights to. I do this for personal use. I would have to contact the authors and get permissions or they could contact me if there was a demand for EVSI versions of them.

So far I think EVSI would be the first plug I would release for EVC, most of the time I am the one downloading plug-ins for EVC like Quatum104 or Cygnus Alliance (Which I am in the process of EVSItizing).

    • I think the reason why I still play EVC is because I love it's simplicity: No fancy effects with weapons, B-movie sounds, A simple and effective storyline - and of course the ships, probably the best part of the game.

Oh, and It was the first EV I ever played, so it probably always has a place in my heart 😉 .

    • Repeat the mantra: Plug-ins.

Plug-ins are the main reason why I still play EV.
I had done a passable job of porting some of the plug-ins to EVO a la Resedit, but the hassle and my messiness inducing errors dampens the experience.

Repeat the second matra : Oh PortAuthority, where art thou?

This mythological app will make playing EV plugs on EVO, or EVN much, much, easier (and thus probably lessen the time that I play on the EV engine).

    • My registered copy of EV got trashed, unfortunately, by my careless mom. Not that I actually play them anymore, because I don't have the time, but now, I simply can't! :frown:

And no, I'm not re-downloading, or dealing with Hector again. 😛

    • I'll play EV every once in a while because A) It's on the 1997 PowerMac in my room, and it's a good way to forget about things, 🆒 My sisters won't get off the G4 or 🆒, I wan't to see a nice looking ship. It's also more fun to play, because the ships fly faster, and it's easier to play.

Oh, and eight people can fit in a four-seater convertabile. Trust me......?

That's another reason why I still play it. Because the ships in Override and Nova are, well, slow as molasses. You wan't fun from a computer game - not a snorefest. (Not saying that EV/O and EV/N are boring - they have redeeming features.)

Yeah, but that speeda up the game too much. In EV, that's the normal game speed.

Yes, I know you can use RES edit to help that. But that doesn't help the ships unless you happen to have a few of those graphics-enhancer plugs. I forget the name of the really popular one. Maxima? Something like that.

    • I play because I was always most impressed by the EV Classic as when I started out I had no clue what I was doing. The gov ships were always powerful until I learned how to kill Kestrels with a Defender and a Confed cruiser with a Corvett. 🙂

seeing a named kesterel taken down by meny manta's. i forgot there names of the kesteral's, but the manta's from several carries form two lines one on eatch side, flaying in the line by him and shotting, then at the end of the line they make a long ark, then go in the other one. the kestral nver even tried shooting!. then there's the rebel fleets that show up now and then in sol system and kill all the cofed ships.plus-ins make it more fun. I took down about 10- conded frig. with only my courir(can't spell it) ship and a rebel destrer.

    • EV classic is the best of the series - it's what started it all. You can't help playing it when it calls your name. 😛

Heh, for me, EV has gone from a IIsi to a IIci, several different Quadras, a few flavors of iMacs, a G3 Blue and White tower to my current G4. I never thought it'd make it this far. 😄

I don't think many of us imagined it would in '96. I went from an LC475 to a PM 7500 and now my precious Cube which is finally due for replacement. EV is so much more accessible compared to its sequels. It's a no frills storyline that simply works and almost all the ships feels balanced and worth a try at some point in the game.

The largest plus though must be the plug-ins. They're much easier to do in Classic and they have always been that easy. Just compare it to the complexity of Nova, there's so much more to screw up in that engine. Here anyone can make a TC as long as there's ambition.

Besides, it's not called CLASSIC for nothing.

Agreed. The original storyline was always great, but the plugins out there constantly keep so much depth to the game. As long as people continue to make plugins for EV, the game will live on. That's why I still put my full focus to creating graphics for the EV (and Override) engines rather than Nova - I ain't gonna let the game fade into time by the excuse that developers didn't have graphic resources. 😄

Heh, yeah, the simplified graphics really sets a standard almost anyone can follow. The only problem would be to manage the 8-bit colours properly so they won't look too grainy or just dumbed down. I have a deep respect for Ambrosia, being able to pull that off with the EV-ships and I was quite dissapointed with Override for failing to do so with few exceptions.

EV will live on, I'm sure. 🙂
