    • Changing Sides

I've had the same pilot for a few years now (i don't really get the chance to play
very often), i've finished all the rebel missions and was wondering if it was then possible to do the confed missions as well?
i've built myself up in sol to decent individual, it it possible or am i just wasting my time?
      thanks

    • I couldnt do the confed missions after the rebel ones. I didn't want to change pilots either.

I did the confed missions first and was then invited to switch sides to the rebels... I was already a criminal in Sol by then...

    • I was sort of forced to join the rebellion when i did it once.

    • No, Once you have finished the major mission strings for one side, the other is locked. If you want both sides ships, you can just make them available everywhere in RES edit.

    • You can go from Confed to Rebel via the Switch Sides mission, but you cannot go from Rebel to Confed.

There was a plug a while back (whenever I say that, I mean two years ago) that added a Rebel -> Confed "Switch Sides" mission, but I never tried it and have no idea if it works well.

Just start a new pilot; you'll get to start the fun all over again.

    • thanks,
i half started another pilot, maybe i'll go back to that,
      or play EVO or EVN

    • Where can I find this Rebel -> Confed switch sides plug? On a different note, I (think) I saw awhile back a plug that fully converts EV to EVO. Has anyone used this? Is it any good? Can you tell me where to find it? Thanks!

    • Starting a new pilot is the best course of action. Both the Rebel and Confed mission strings occasionally deal with the same events. If both strings were made available, then you would be accomplishing the same task at two different times. If you really want to, there's a little bug in the programming that allows one pilot to do both strings. The first rebel and confed missions are simple courier missions. If you accept the intro mission for one side, then fly to the other side and accept their intro mission BEFORE completing the first intro mission (You should have both a rebel and confed courier mission), you can then complete both and play through both mission strings at your leasure.

I am not aware of an EVO->EV plug (just a statement of my ignorance rather than a statement about its existance) but can make some fundamental comments:

EVO added some features that aren't available in EV so, in principle, you couldn't do a true conversion. Nonetheless, most of the things that were added were not used (at least in the core scenario). The only thing that would cause much difference is the presence of afterburners on many AI ships. There would be a slight change to the atmosphere because EVO made it easier to add mission dependent ships to the universe (in EV they use the pers resource to achieve this, in EVO you can put new ships in dude and flet resources - the conversion would be tricky). Finally, EVO allowed for more complicated seeker behaviour (and jamming) that couldn't be replicated in EV (but could be approximated).

The other thing is that there have been at least 3 conversions of EV->EVO. Most of them were simple pasting of resources into an EVO datafile and didn't work properly. I've been doing something similar for my own benefit and there are a surprising number of things that change (and are not obvious from a reading of the bibles).

      ------------------
Its amazing how "tsk, tsik, nik" can mean anything from "There's a bomb in the bus, get help!" to "I'm hungry, feed me"
In case of ambiguity about anything I say - choose the nicest interpretation.

.....Erherm, yea, but what if the finkadoodle mass of the green vortex is not equivalent to that of the green one.....on Friday?

Anyways, I'm probably going to start a new pilot file, but what are the named of the beggining missions in the Rebel and Confed strings? I just want to make sure I get them. Also, if I did the Confed missions, could i use the switch sides mission and then do the rebel mission?

For the confed mission string, work up to a individual, then land on one of their planets over and over while checking the bars. Sooner or later, a supply staff person from the confed will ask you to run a small courier mission. Say yes, and your off with the feds! Its just the same with the rebels, but a supply staff from the rebels with come instead. And the last part to your question, could i use the switch sides mission and then do the rebel mission? Its only if your just starting your confed string. it wont work after you did it.

      Hope that helped!

    • If the finkerdoodle mass of the green vortex is not equivalent to the green one on Tuesdays you have to shut down immediately and do a clean install of your system folder. I'm not sure about Fridays but think it may involve a quantity of custard and some high-quality whiteboard markers.

Sorry for the techno-babble, I lost track of which board I was on and went into EV Dev board speak.

To keep it short - EVO on EV wouldn't be the same thing but it would probably be a close approximation.
