how do you take over planets?

You target a planet by pressing L, if there are multiple inhabited planets in the sytem, just press 1 to 3 to select which, then press Y (make sure you don't have any ships targeted) and then click on Demand Tribute.

However, you'll need a Deadly combat rating before they'll take you seriously and send their defense fleet after you. If you've managed to destroy the entire defense fleet (ranging from a few to a few thousands....), hail the planet and demand tribute again, they'll surrender and you'll get yourself some daily income.

What do you mean "can you make your own level to play on"? You can make plugins that alter or add to the existing universe, yes, but there aren't "levels" like there are in games like Doom or Quake.

Heheh, levels in EV, such a silly thought. Oh, and even if you have a deadly rating most won't BOW DOWN TO YOUR AWSOME POWER unless you have the next best and the best rating - Ultimate.
