    • help problems with the mac emulator

ive got to the last stage of war beasts forum. I click on Escape Velocity to play but a box comes up saying:

sorry, an error occured while trying to open the monitor tool

      ID= -3

please can u tell me how to overcome this problem.

      ------------------

    • You're having the same problem I was at first. I read around on the boards (search function) and found out the problem lies (lay?) in the screen resolution. Set it to 800 x 600, 8 bits. I know, it'll screw up the color a bit, but it will solve your problem. Lemme tell ya, after not being able to play EV/O for little more than six months, I finally stumbled upon the screen resolution solution. You know what EV/O/N addiction is. After six months, I've had my first EV/O fix. Even my DT's are going!
      Enjoy the games!

    • cheers thanks a lot do you thing ev nova would work

      ------------------

    • Glad I could help! No, I don't think EVN would work. For one thing, it would require much more memory than you have to give. I'm just waiting for my iMac to get back from the shop before even trying. I d/l'ed EVN (yeah, I know...77MB! That was about a total of four hours of d/l time!), but couldn't unstuff it (the emulator needed more memory than I have to give it). So, I'm just gonna wait. Promises to be a good game, though, don't you think? BTW: how'd you come up with the screenname soul_seeker? Sounds pretty cool!
BTW2: as a fellow PC user/fellow EV/O addict, you might enjoy this screensaver. It's called LightWave and is an interactive screensaver. Give it a shot! Here's the addy:

    • If you're trying to get EV Nova to work, it's been done (heck, it works on my comp with an emulator). Check over on the EVN boards (search), or if you really can't find it, post a message there.

    • cheers CaptAceHarddrive. Your probably one of the more decent people on these boards. Thanks for the screen savers they are great, im using them now. Thanks a lot. I managed to get my ev nova files unipped but its justs drones on about a somthing to do with tool monitor.

    • Thanks for the praise, soul_seeker! Glad to know I could help! Glad to know you like the screensaver! I'm just waiting for my Mac to get fixed before trying to play EVN. Even after upping the memory on Basilisk II, the ships tend to move a bit jerkily. Since EVN is so memory intensive, I'd be willing to bet the effect would be worsened. Still and all, I'd rather play mac games on a mac. On another thread, someone responded to my using an emulator by saying "Naughty, naughty...you'll be caughty!" I guess he considers it cheating. I don't, however. BTW: If you're the type that likes weapons (even "cheat" weapons), for EV, try "Antimatter Beam," "Fireball," or "Super Torpedo." I'm flying the "Neutronic Kestrel" and use "Neutron Torpedoes". I don't know if you've ever used MAGMA in your plugins folder, but the Neutronic Kestrel goes from the dinky golden-colored ship one would think of to a large, dark-colored (silverish black) ship. This ships is as large as a Rebel Cruiser! I think someone called it the "Condor." In EVO, I'm flying the "Miranu Kestrel" and like to use the "Plasma Blast Turret" and "Forklift." BTW2: The Fireball and Super Torpedo are more akin to the Forklift in that they are super-weapons.
What do you like to fly/fav. weapons?

    • If this basilisk thingy isn't working try Excecutor, you can download it for a 30 day trial period, but I just keep setting the date on my computer back so it keeps saying I have 30 days left. Anywho, it probably won't run EV quite as smoothly, but all u have to do is install and run.

    • An question to the original question, if soul_seeker is still looking for the answer...

Are you using the latest version of Basilisk, build 143? Earlier versions of Basilisk will not work with EV Nova.

Don't try Executor! 🙂 It's too expensive, black and white, and has little to no sound.

It's good to still be recognized for the tutorial. 🙂 If you tried to e-mail me this question first and I haven't responded the answer, I'm sorry. With me being so busy lately, I haven't even really had time to reply to close friends and relatives through e-mail lately. I'm trying to keep up, but...well, it's difficult these days.

Also, BOGGLE. Somebody got Nova to work with Basilisk?? That was supposed to be impossible...I'll look into all that first chance tomorrow. (if only i had access to SEMI-good equipment...)

    • New problem: EV and EV:O will run without a hitch on FUSION, but when I go to the map, nothing's on it - before and after buying the starting Regional Map. You can't even use the H and Backspace keys to select destinations. It's as if no systems even exist. Why?

I haven't tried Fusion; I've been satisfied with Basilisk for a while.

Well, after EVN came out, I was desperate enough to want a taste of it to e-mail the author of the Basilisk Windows port; then TomWoozle posted a message to the Basilisk web boards at SourceForge.net, and eventually the guy updated Basilisk to work with Nova -- so now there's the current version build 143, made just to work with Nova.

Well, I'd recommend that you start with a computer that's at the very least 500 MHz. Other than that, you just have to play with settings, disable lots of extensions, and so on, and hope that it works well. Even on my computer (well, it's not that fast anymore, compared to what's out there) it runs a bit choppy, but it's definitely more than playable.

Sorry Phantom Penguin, point taken
It just seems to annoy when PC users play this game.

I didn't realize we even had this many Windoze users on the forums.
Won't you all be happy when Contraband has finished porting Nova to the system.
