is there a fed string in the plug "New Horizons"? i want to get their ships but i cant seem to find the string. i am good egg at least in every system and half the rebels hate me. i have not done any missions or harmed any fed ships. i am flying a ship that can kill any other. i dont get why i cant get the string if there is one. i know i could just use resedit to make them available everywere but i want to earn the right. thanks in advance.

(edit) I cant belive that anyone would need to cheat to kill the Event Horizon! you know who you are. for shame. (/edit)

    • Actually there was no Confed mission string in NH. Don't worry though, if you complete the storyline with the Torgo Virus, you'll be surprised.

    • how? you see i have done the T.D.R.F. story line and done the rebel stuff and killed off the Event Horizon. im to the point that im geting missions in the computer to either escort a convoy or kill a scout. how to i continue from there?(note this is not the pilot that has the rebels angery at him) ive checked clotho prime and some of the frontier bases. i have found out about the bulk freighter crashing on torgo and done that up to the point where the TRDF offers their string and i took it. is there more?

For future reference, search the archives first. EV is old enough that usually someone else has already asked the same question (try: "best ship" for endless reading). Also, with the release of Nova, there are less active members on the EV boards now.

    • well that helped a little. but i still dont know where to get the mission that continues the alien invasion.

If you read the information I posted carefully, it should be clear that the TRDF is a dead end. You never move beyond the "kill this alien" stage. There is only one conclusion to the plug, and that's when you do not join the TRDF; rather, you help the LOI to talk to the Rebels. Eventually you help them beat the Confeds, who are replaced by the CDCW. This lets you buy Confed ships. The alien missions continue, and eventually you can buy alien ships. At this point everyone loves you and that's the end.

So if you already joined the TRDF, sorry. You have to start over with a new pilot. As I pointed out (I was EVaddict then; the ID has since been registered by someone else) I got in touch with Aidan Hotan, the creator of NH, and he said there wasn't time to write more missions. So there's only one major mission string, and you unfortunately took the wrong branch. Back up your pilot often and clone him when a mission branch appears!

    • might you register again?
anyway i did back up my pilot befor i chose to go with the LOI or TRDF. so i took that pilot and took the LOI string up to the point that i can buy fed ships. i thought that was the end. but now that i know it isnt. i still have my little Destroyer in that pilot however ive killed many a doomsday with it. not a bad ship at all if you fit it right. well i want to finish the string now but im having trouble naming my new Carrier so that will take a bit. were will i find the next mission?

i cant belive you people needed to cheat to kill the Event Horizon though, and im one of the worst pilots here. im a little disapointed that TRDF is a dead end, i realy like that destroyer of theirs. ok i stop rambling.

There is no need to cheat at all in the game. One of the easiest ways to make money is by asteroid mining. Do it for 1 hour, and you will have 10M credits, enough to buy the most expensive (and best) ship. Can't remember the name of it, but it holds 6 or 8 guns and 3 or 4 turrets. It is available on only one planet, near where you sell the asteroids. Put beam weapons and beam turrets on it, and nobody can touch you. The Doomsday becomes a 30 second exercise. Yawn. For a real challenge, play a small ship and pretend like money makes a difference. And try taking down carriers in a small ship - it's pretty hard. New Horizons is realistic in this aspect - carriers have swarms of fighters and your puny weapons do minimal damage to carriers. Also try using the AI upgrade plug-in to make enemy fighters smarter...

I always found missions in bars - just hang out. It always helps to keep a high combat rating and a good relationship with the planets.

    • well i think the ship your thinking of is the Grand Stellar Cruiser. the only beam weap i know of that are turreted is the atom blaster turret. i stocked up on blasters and turrets on one of my ships and i did not like it much. besides, energy lances are much longer range and IMO the best primary in the plug. as for the small ship thing, is an old rebel destroyer small enough? thats what i used through most of the plug. i know about the mining and all. but i am puzzled as to one thing. were can you get a doomsday? i know its a crapy ship but i want to take a gander at the stats.

    • There are a few readily purchasable ships in the "heavy cruiser" class.

The Enigma: (found on Infin in the south) Has lots and lots of weapon space.
Cygnus' cruiser: (found on their HQ, "east" of Turin). This ship has six turret spaces...not bad.
Intimidator: (found lots of places). Not a lot of weapon space, but this ship has killer shield recharge.
Devastator: (found in pirate space). Kinda ugly and slow, but could work.

I would love to see the graphics in NH rerendered at an oblique angle, as there are a lot of very pretty ships in this plug. This plug has the widest selection of new ships and outfitting gear that I've seen in any plug.
