I know someone posts one of these every so often but I'm just a curious kind of person. EV is more than a few years old now. Those of us who started playing when it first came out have grown up since then and new players are joining all the time. I'm just curious about the current age demographic. How old are the people playing Escape-Velocity these days and how long have you been playing it for? I guess I'll start with myself.

I am ares1, 13, and have been playing since I nabbed it off a Macaddict (not sure which) some years ago. How many years ago? Let's see...

I joined #ev around September 1997. That means I got to the EV webboard somewhere very early 1997. That means I got EV a few months before that... Somewhere in 1996, I suppose. Maybe I should go through my MacAddict CD collection to try to find which disk it was on...

The premiere MacAddict CD (august 96) had ev 1.0.1 on it. I seem to remember having version 1.0.5 as my first version, but methinks I may have been mistaken. When did 1.0.5 come out, anyhow? And, more importantly, was it ever on a disk? I don't think so... Probably 1.0.1 was my first version.

Rawzer. 15 1/2. Have been playing Escape Velocity ever since it came with a Performa I got in maybe '97, '98-ish. Started, thought all you could do was fly; started again, wasted money on gambling; started again, discovered mission computer and hyperspace. Then things got interesting...

I have started to play EV since 99 or 98 and I am near twenty. One thing I find special is that young people started to play at like 10 years old or less. I hope you were not addicts, otherwise you could have spoiled the best years of your life. Though at my age, things are great.

I think I first played Escape Velocity in 1998 or 1999 from a Macaddict CD at my grandfather's house (way before I had my own computer). I was probably about eleven then...and if I'd had a computer at that time, I would have been here a lot longer... Anyway, my grandfather complained that it messed up his computer, so he forced me to get rid of it. I didn't play it then for years, although it had been my favourite game until I discovered Final Fantasy 7.

Then I got an iMac in summer 2001, and I was able to get EV again. (I'd been around since February 2001, using an old PC)

And the name's Esponer. The real name's different, but only Gildor actually calls me by it.
