The server got moved, and currently the board can't email users their passwords. Also, most free addresses (such as hotmail and yahoo) are blocked so that the more obnoxious members of the community, who have since been banned, can't sign back up as easily and run amuck.

Your ISP should offer you an email for free. If not, you may want to look into getting a new ISP...
Actually, it really isn't unfair. In order to get a few more people on the boards who deserve it, we would have to put up with unreasonably larger amounts of spam and the like. Denying a minority access is better than making the boards such a nasty place that no one wants to be here at all.
