      Yes.

      The Confederation lets you purchase all of their mainstream ships (Cruiser, Frigate, Gunboat, and Interceptor). However, you cannot purchase their Cruiser Mk. II.

      The Rebellion lets you purchase all of their mainstream ships (Cruiser, Destroyer, and Manta). However, you cannot purchase their Escort Carrier.

      I believe that by Cruiser Mark II, General Rak is referring to the particle beam cannon-carrying përs cruisers that appear once you complete the Rebel Pursuit missions.

      Yes. In one of the texts for one mssion (I forget which), these are reffered to as the "Cruisers Mk. II."

      Yes you are correct, however they are never actually implemented in game. The official just says that the Confederation will be upgrading its cruisers so that they carry the particle beam as standard.

      The particle beam cannon-carrying cruisers actually do show up in-game after you complete Rebel Pursuit. It's just that they're implemented using përs resources rather than a custom shďp resource, so they aren't as noticeable and you can't buy one.

      The Cruiser Mk. II doesn't just have a particle beam, they also have a gunboat bay with a pair of gunboats. Actually, all the named Confed cruisers have the pair of gunboats, but only some of them also have the particle beam. This is just like how all the named Rebel cruisers have two extra Mantas, and how named Rebel Destroyers have four Mass Drivers.

      I think it was a bad idea to give you a certain goverment's ships only after you'd completed the whole mission string. You should be able to buy government's weaker ships earlier in the game (like in evo). Who needs a Manta when you are in a Kestrel with ten million credits?

      You seem to forget that buy allowing you to purchase a ship, you can also hire it as an escort. A Destroyer isn't a bad ship to have as backup.

      I thought that ships that can only be purchased after completing a mission can't be acquired in a bar as escorts due to a lack of coding. Not so bad in EV, but terrible in EV-O, whenever I needed a more advanced ship to guard me, all I could get was the basic lists.

      A Destroyer is an okay ship to have as backup. They kick ass when you're flying one, but Destroyer escorts die too easily, I prefer to have six Rebel Cruisers as escorts. They reduced a pirate corvette to space-dust in two seconds. Their Manta's are good to have on your side too.

      P.S. Easy (cheat?) way to capture Earth with six Rebel Cruisers. When they unload your Manta's. This should mean that there are 31 ships in the system (yours, the six Rebel Cruisers and their 24 Manta escorts). Since only 32 ships can be present in a system, Earth will only be able to send out one ship. Once you kill it, quickly unload on of your Manta's (make sure your in a Rebel Cruiser, or something which has fighters) before Earth sends out another ship. There will now be 32 ships in the system. Earth can't send out another ship because of this. Now hail Earth and demand tribute again. Now the planet is yours! 😄 (this works with any planet, I only chose Earth because it has the largest defence fleet).
