Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the base,
Not an alarm was sounding; it felt like a grave.
The rifles were hung by the great warships with care,
In hopes that the call for attack would soon be there.
The soldiers were restless without any food,
while visions of fighter duels flashed in their heads.
Admiral Davies in his uniform and I in my BDUs,
Had just settled down for a warm winter's nap,
When out on the command room there arose such a clatter,
I grabbed my proton rifle to see what was the matter.
Towards the great racket I ran like a real soldier,
Running through the hallways; into the room I did burst.
A red light from the ceiling shone down on the commanders
And lit up the room with an ominous glow,
When, what to my one good eye should appear,
But a dozen Confed Cruisers, and Frigates in the rear,
And their flagship, so mighty, it moved forward in valiance,
I knew in an instant it must be the U.S.S. Reliant.
Less rapid than turtles the enemy forces they came,
And they whistled, and shouted, and called out our names;
"Now Davies! Riprock! Beefpile! And Dash!
We come for you now; we've taken your stash!"
"To the top of the guns! To the back of the ships!
When you chose this war, you dig your own graves!"
As the dry Rebel commander let loose those great words,
And the soldiers met with haste got up from their beds,
So up to the battlestations Rebel forces they flew
With full ammo loads, and neutron blasters too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard with a thud
The explosions of Frigates hulks; not one was a dud.
As I fired my rifle, and was turning around,
The Rebel flagship was there, brilliant in all red.
It was dressed all in guns, from its port to its stern,
And the captain said he would attack while I got to my Manta;
A bundle of torpedoes he had stuffed in his launchers,
He said "I'm going to send the Confeds to hell and I'm not looking back!"
His eyes were all glassy; the Confeds trembled with fear;
The Rebel bombs, they rang in their ears.
They readied their ships, then turned tail and fled,
But a well placed space bomb got them in the head.
I watched with great triumph as their ships they did blow;
Their fuel tanks exploded; they fell with a great boom.
And so, there I stood, their plans all destroyed,
About to suffer a fate they could not avoid;
I dropped into my Manta; and fired my gun,
Sure that I could help make some more Confeds run,
"You ignorant fools!" I yelled and gunned my engines,
"Now we shall show you how to get vengance,
We told you to honor your colonies and friends;
Not to enslave them, or force them to work!
You invoke your good name because of your deeds,
For you are the last thing that this world needs.
And so, I'll send you and your flagship to Hell."
The last words I spoke, as the torpedoes zoomed forth,
Which were from Davies himself as he blew up them all,
"For freedom and justice for all!"
