I can save as often as I like, but once I quit and restart the game, try to load. It tels me I cna explore nor more in an unregistered version and goes to the start screen where I can start a brand new game or quit.

I have ordored the registration codes, and have d'loaded the full version.
the full verison gives the same result.

will the registered version be able to recognize the saved files? or are they being saved "incorrectly" so they cannot be read?

Its a known bug for the full unregisted. Just open your saved game from the desktop and not in-game. Thankfully it works just fine once you register.
