Can anybody please inform me on how i get rid of old escorts, this would really help me out, thanks

While holding down on the option button, change targets until you get to you escort(instead of a government it will say escort), press the communications button and click on the button that say "release from servitude". Welcome to the boards!

This is answered in the Read Me located in the EV folder, but since you've asked, I'll tell you. Hold down Option, then push Tab (or whichever button you use to cycle through ships in the system, if you've changed it) repeatedly until you select the escort you wish to release. Push "Y", the default Communications button, then click on "Release From Servitude". That's all there is to it!

My favourite way is to get into a fight with a ship stronger than my escort, and let him do the job for me.
