    • Freighter poll

OK, I'm starting a freighter poll. here it goes.
      Argosy
      light freighter
      bulk freighter
      courier
those are the ones I consider freighters. you can include others like luxury liner, etc.
my vote goes for the argosy.

      ------------------
do I pilot a UE destroyer? certainly not!

    • I try to avoid the big freighters, since they cost a lot, and they are hard to defend in. I tend to make the leap from a Courier to a Corvette, although I sometimes place the Argosy in between. That said, the Argosy is the best ship of the bunch, but not really the best freighter. I would then go with the Courier. It has a lot of space for such a small ship, it has decent handling, an obscene ammount of fuel, and you can make money fairly quickly with it. The one downside is the poor defense, but none of the freighters really have good weapons, armor, and shields anyway.

      ------------------
      e^17i<pi> + 1 = 0

    • Thats right. The Agrosy is an all pourpose ship thus making it not a bad frieter and not a bad fighter (if you can call it that).

    • I say Argosy. It may not have as much cargo room as the light freighter, but it can be upgraded to be a fighter and carry plenty of cargo. Or get a ton of mass expansions, and buy a torpedo launcher and Hawk bay> 😉

I agree that it is the best ship of the group, but I don't think that it is the best freighter. While it can be used as one, it is better served as more of a marauder, or a cross between a freighter and a capital ship.

    • The Argosy is one of the best ships in the game. With 6 mass expansions, full shield upgrades, full engine and rcs upgrades, full proton weaponry and heavy rockets it is practically a capital ship.

I never use freighters for freighting (is that a word?). Only the argosy as a poor-man's destroyer.

    • I also choose the Argosy. It has the most potential to defend itself, and can even make a formidable attack warship (which the pirates have discovered). It doesn't have the cargo space of other freighters, but I prefer to protect smaller amounts of cargo as good as possible, instead of hauling cargo with hardly any protection at all...

If the Cofederation agreed with Skyblade, the Galaxy might not have so many Pirates...

Good point. Bulk Freighters and Luxury Liners armed with a single laser turret doesn't exactly hault pirate activity against cargo fleets. 😉

    • The Leviathon! Oh wait, that's Nova. Depends on what you want to do. If you just want to do commodity trading than a bulk freighter is your best bet. If you are like me and can't stomach that idea then the Argosy. Decent enough cargo space for several cargo missions and it can defend itself.

    • DUH, the best freighter is the bulk freighter. It has the most cargo room!

    • Well, my favourite is the Argosy. I like to give it full proton weaponary, and then hang out in Rebel systems and attack other freighters, and sell their cargo. I make a lot of money that way.

If you are going to be a trader, you should not get a freighter. You should get a fast ship that can defend itself (argosy, or even shuttle, even though it cannot defend itself well) and get a fleet. That way, there is less risk of losing your own life. Escorts are dispensable, and if you know what you are doing, very cost-effective.

    • I use a light Frieghter armed with a hwak Bay to pirate Argosys. the Fighters do all the work.

? Just get an argosy. I can hold as much cargo as another argosy, so the extra space that comes with a light freighter is doing you no good at all.

    • Argosy. It carries plenty of cargo, doesn't get blown up very often, and moves quickly enough that I don't get bored.

    • Can I vote like Starkiller(?) tried to in Skyblade's EVO fighter poll and give a negative vote to the Courier? 😛 I'm disgusted that that piece of crap could get a vote.

Seriously, Argosy. I usually skip this group of ships, going straight from Scoutship to Corvette, but the Argosy is unquestionably the best freighter. Carries a good amount of cargo and is the only one that is at all capable of defending itself, and very much so at that. It looks like I tend to outfit it differently from many though. I usually get a pair of Mass Expansions, upgrade the maneuverability, shields, and armor, and then get either a Hawk Bay and some Missiles, or upgrade to Proton Turrets and get a lot of Missiles. Either way, a Corvette becomes easy prey and Kestrels can generally be taken down too. The Argosy is probably the lowest ship that can reliably take down a Kestrel.

    • I vote for the Courier. The Argosy is too slow and expensive for my tastes. If I want to haul cargo, I usually just hire some Light Freighters and find a good trade route. The courier has enough space to take on three rush missions, a cool 75,000 credits. Add in the big fuel tank and decent speed and you've got a great transport.

The Argosy may be better in combat, but I usually try to avoid combat any time in the game I would fly a freighter.
