Skyblade "ordered" him to Barnard. He can move fleets at his discretion.

True, but ErsadtSF's fleet is now in your hands, Rak. Take your newly reinforced fleet to Capella (as stated in post on episode II topic).

I'm sorry, but I can no longer be the Pirate shipbuilder and weapons designer. I have too many other things on my brain to do.

Although you won't be designing ships and weapons anymore, will you continue to post in the topic? If not, then I'm afraid we'll have to go ahead and bring episode II to an early end... :frown:

Sorry, I already retired my fleet. It was a bit too chaotic in there for me, plus the fact that I have another webstory I'm in (no offense, Skyblade). We don't have any more pirates now, do we?

Don't worry about it. I completely understand. I guess since we've suddenly lost so many players, we'll go ahead and bring episode II to a close. Although I would have liked for it to last much longer, I think this is the best thing to do. Besides, I'll have more time to work on episode III. We'll be much more prepared with all the mistakes and blunders made in this webstory.
Thanks for participating! You made a great pirate.

Any chance you might want to help in Episode III David? We're looking at the possibility of a neutral moderator in charge of a lot of stuff, and both of us want to be in the game smashing enemy fleets. So we thought you might fit well there, if you wanted. Of course, we'd also like to have you as a fleet commander, if you don't want the other.

Could be. If you send me the information for the story when its ready, I might be able to be involved, depending on when the story is going to be starting and how my schedule works out. Regardless of whether I end up participating or not, I do think that you would benefit from a neutral moderator to make decisions without having a vested interest in the outcome.

Thanks, I'll need some extra luck. I believe posting a webstory right at the beginning of a new school year might have caused problems for many of the episode II members...
As Mac said, we are looking for a neutral moderator for episode III. As you probably saw for yourself, many of the battles were rather one-sided during episode I. There were also many questions that seemed to never receive a direct answer (which was partly my fault), so a moderator which sides with no government may be a good idea. We plan on having "The Worlds Beyond the Milky Way" underway in a few weeks, or maybe a month. Just tell us when your schedule isn't so tight, and if you'd like the position.
By the way, I'll be happy to send you a map of the "Sentarus Galaxy" if you like. This will be the main area in which episode III will take place.

Skyblade / Mac / Whomever:
Having not participated in BFS I, I have a question: Did you find the battles in BFS II less one-sided than BFS I? (If so I'm gald I skipped the first one.)
Suggestions for BFS III:
a) Independent Mod - I see you are working on that.
Less Ship/Weapon/Techno Freedom - It seemed the designers spent more time on "whiz-bangs" than in the story.
c) Clear & Simple Rules For Battles - Something (like) "When you are the attacker a Cruiser kill must cost you the equivalent of 50 Fighters. A Corvette kill must cost the equivalent of 10 fighters." (Therefore one could lose 3 Corvettes and 20 Fighters in the Cruiser kill.) What do you think?
d) More Frequent Ship Purchasing - C (above) would deplete fleets so fast players would need reinforcements more regularly.
If you want more suggestions, I will. But sometimes story designers really do not want help. So I will keep out of it unless requested....

I disagree with this rule. It makes the game no fun. It is all math, and the side with the most efficient ship wins. Superior strategy over math anyday. I would not EVER participate in a webstory with this kind of rule! Maybe one should have to fully desribe their strategy?

If you're going to be waiting a month before starting on it, I see no reason at the moment that I would have any trouble participating. It's only for the next couple weeks that my schedule is unsure.

Far too simple and straight forward. The Aliens have far better tech than HC, so can yuo imagine what a strain this would be on them? Having to lose 50 Alien Fighters to kill an HC Cruiser would be ludicrous. Plus, it's strips the story of all tactics, which I really enjoy, partly because I feel it gives me a bit of an advantage over some people. Not a good idea.
As for one-sided battles, it's hard to say. In Episode I, David, Skyblade and I were the only major posters, and we tend to be pretty fair. OTOH, David didn't do a whole lot of battle scripting, so he may have got burned a bit there, but I think Skyblade and I gave him enough opportunity in most cases, so it may have been his choice.

Alright, then I guess that settles the time problem. Mac and I are in the process of re-writting many (if not all) of the rules, so it could be a few more weeks before we're done.
Kap'n Karl- I found the battles in episode II more one-sided than that of episode I. I don't believe we topic mods did a good enough job making sure the rules were followed during the "Unfinished War." We'll make sure that this doesn't occur during "The Worlds Beyond the Milky Way."

I thought we did OK in most cases. I may have gotten a little toward the Aliens in some battles, since I naturally could calculate their tactics better than other people's, and our tactics were pretty good IMO. The biggest problem may have been the pirates one-sided takeovers. Those were hard to stop, it wouldn't look very good voiding posts because tey were taking too many worlds, and our warnings didn't have a lot of effect. I can guarantee that this particular action will not happen in Episode III, we're specifically modifying the rules to prevent that sort of thing.

Okay, Rak, your disagreement is ... progress. Would that you had offered an alternative though....
I was suggesting a "minimum mandatory loss" formula to prevent the "Commander Crazy jumped into the system and 'so surprised the enemy' that his 120 Fighters and 2 Battleships destroyed 4 Cruisers, 8 Frigates, 19 Corvettes and all 98 Fighters. Crazy's flagship's sheilds were down to 44%, but that was all the damage to his entire fleet," kind of posts.
My suggested numbers were entirely "pulled out thin air" for my post, but the idea of a minimum mandatory loss formula for the attackers still has some merit. It just may be that the formula I suggested was too severe. Come up with a better one.
(In BFS II I was a pirate. For a "toe-to-toe" battle we had dramatically less firepower and inferior ships, so our best strategy was exploiting the one advantage we DID have; better mobility and quick strike strategy. This got the Mod's noses out of joint. BUT ... notice how the pirates were devastated when the battles were "fleet -vs- fleet" with either the HC or the Aliens. Any advantage the pirates DID have up to that point was GONE. In other words, pirates could capture systems, but NOT adequately defend them against attack. (Pretty much like RL, huh?) Strategy IS very important, but the minumum loss rule would keep the craziness under control.)
What did you think of my 'other' suggestions?

See my post on that too. Because of the different levels of technology, any such rules would be so complicated as to impractical. And it also would take most of the fun out of the webstory, and for something like this, fun is the whole point.

We're working on A, B is a possibility, and D is pretty much invalidated by the fact that we won't be using C, it would let fleet numbers spiral out of control.
