Judging from your description, it sounds like you were using the "Galactic Scourge" plugin. A Rebel dreadnaught is seen in the plugin, and you can buy the Rebel Destroyer before completing the alien missions.

Correct, although I'm not sure about the stats for armor in Override. How much armor does Bronev add?

Dospect is 50 (500 on the ResEdit scale), Bronev gives 100 (1000 in ResEdit).

    • Ahh! Bronev works fine on any strand ship
But, wrong board, I think ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dospect is 50? Many Override players consider Dospect to be the "low end" armor of Override, yet it is just as tough as the Tritanium of Escape Velocity. Interesting...

Bronev could be a problem on Strand ships, while it would help a lot in fights, where all the weapons do more to shields, but most Strand ships have little room and if I remember right Bronev weighs like 60 tons. Dospect would be great though.

Nah, use an Arada, buy mass expansions, put on a layer of Bronev - voilรก, almost unbeatable in the crescent.
BTW: what amount of shield do the EVO shield "capacitors" add?

It is the "low end" armour of Override. As for its strength, remember that the Voinians who make it have very poor shielding technology and therefore rely on armour to the same degree that everyone else relies on shields.

5 (50 on the ResEdit scale).

    • Well, I find this interesting: in EV, shields are very strong, 800 on a Confed Cruiser, but shield capacitors add only 1.5 points. In EVO, shields are rather weak, like 300 on a UE Cruiser, but the capacitors have 5 points to add
      Then again, this sounds logical

I thought it was somewhere around 5...The shield capacitators don't seem to help out larger ships much in terms of shielding, but capacitators can be very useful on fighters, especially Crescent Fighters and Azdaras.

I believe the shield capacitators of Escape Velocity add a similar amount of shielding...

As for Seekers catching the Argosy, they still can't. Torpedoes have speed 600, yet I can just Outrun them in a Corvette, which is speed 300. It follows that a weapon of speed 400 could be outrun by a ship of speed 200. Besides, I've run from seekers before, and they are apallingly slow.

A bug in EV 1.0.5 allows a human ship with top speed, x to travel at about x*sqrt(2) along the diagonal directions. The AI and guided shots do not exploit this bug, and my Alien Cruiser's seekers do catch the AI Argosy. A human argosy can reach at least 280, which is probably "fast enough" to outlast seekers. The effect is even bigger for corvettes. You probably also noticed your 'vette can outrun mantas and lightnings...

Anyway, I never attempted to fight the alien CA with anything cheaper than a rapier. I will go try it before spewing anymore on Alien Cruiser vs Macavenger's Own Argosy.

Decoy flares work very well against seekers. Seekers tend to bunch up, and one or two flares will decoy the whole pack.

Hey, that's a bug? But seriously, I used this to my advantage for years

I see, so Matt used a speed in x-axis/speed in y-axis system, then. Hope that's been changed to a vector system in Nova.

    • In terms or Cruisers, I like the Confederate Cruiser the best. It may be very slow turning, but it's weapons, shields, and armor make up for that. The Rebel Cruiser has too little firepower for my taste, and the Alien Cruiser has only gun. Powerful, but just one. ๐Ÿ™‚

"Harmless" combat rating? But I finally took out an armed ship! Two Pirate Cowships, er, Argosies. That's not fair!
