    • Taking Sol, Help!

Is there anyway to take Mars in the Sol system? I've been sitting here, shooting down Patrol Ships and Gunboats with my Rebel Cruiser (Not an easy task mind you) AND THEY KEEP COMING. I've been shooting them down for close to two hours with no end in sight. Is it possible to defeat Mars' defense fleet?

    • Definatly just keep at it patience is a vurtue

    • I've been able to take every planet in the Sol system, but it took hours on end...The Confederation defense fleets might seem unlimited, but they do fall in time. My advice is get yourself a Rebel Destroyer with upgrades to avoid the waves of Confederation missiles. Get four proton turrets for fighters, and get all the torpedoes you can get. Also, grab yourself six escorts, which in my case is usually two Rebel Cruiser and four Rebel Destroyers.

    • I couldn't take Sol with cough cough FORKLIFTS cough. :frown: 🙂
How much "tonage" can destroyers handle? I think I held 210 torpedos with a Kestrel. Is a destroyer an upgrade from that?

Lets see: If I remember correctly, I carry three proton turrets, two torpedo launchers, along with 100 torpedoes as a normal load. However, I often change my outfits depending on what I'm doing, what missions I'm performing etc...Another typical outfit for my Destroyer is four proton turrets, and as many proton guns as I can get, as well as hundreds of javelin rockets...I normally use this outfit variation for missions that have plenty to do with enemy fighters. The proton weapons combined will turn any fighter to dust rapidly, and the javelin rockets pack extra punch against tougher targets.

    • I sold all turrets to give me some space. 😄 I used to use neutron blasters, but the Kestrels shields take a beating coming up to a heavy fighter. (Blasted Rapiers and their heavy rockets) The only thing they came in handy for was killing little Defenders, the only ship the poor independents can afford.

It doesn't matter how much firepower you have -- there are over 12,700 ships defending the Sol stellars together (that's over 3,000 per stellar).

      Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?

    • Yeah, NEVER use secondary weapons or they'll run out.

And ALWAYS demand tribute on all three at a time - it limits their numbers.

I tried to take Sol with Heavy Rockets II (a popular cheat weapon stronger than
the Forklift) I was firing out 100 rockets a second, each one able to destroy a
Rapier in one last, and they were moving around with speed and guidance, and had
no ammo limit. Even with THAT I couldn't take them all down.

There's about 4000 on Earth, 4000 on Luna, 4000 on Stardock Alpha and 3000 on Mars.

<gulp> Without cheating it's VERY hard. I think I might need my Lightning for this.....

Mmhm...I wasn't joking when I said it took a long time to take the entire Sol system. Thank goodness for Rebel escorts...

Oh, and there is something quite annoying about it: they come out in waves of FIVE. That is over 600 goddamn waves.

    • I think I'm in over my head here.... It just started out as, "Let's find out what type of ship comes out of Mars when I demand tribute!" and I was pleasantly surprised... stupid gunboats and patrol ships right? WRONG. I was completely unprepared. I was in a Rebel Cruiser... correction, I still AM in a Rebel Cruiser. I left the freakin computer on all night. I have over 4 hours of my life invested in this mission, and I'm not giving up till I set foot on Mars triumphant. My escorts don't do squat, my mantas all died by heavy rockets right in front of my eyes (I think the rockets were intended for me) and my 2 Kestral escorts and their lightnings are the only thing that do any good... (I have a corvette which does nothing, and I HAD some argosies... hmm... I wonder where they went) but it's not enough. They damage every ship, but by the time they get to me, they're back up to full.... My advice to anyone who wants to take Sol, make sure you know what the hell you're doing, have some badass escorts, and make sure you're ship is agile enough to match a patrol ship. I think I'm going to go back upstairs and play some more.... wish me luck.

      ------------------

    • Good luck.

Try getting 6 Rebel Cruiser escorts and buying an upgraded Rebel Destroyer.

With your speed to help you, set up a little system of weights, wooden things that
peck, and so on, so that your ship automatically flies back and forth and the other
      side of the star system.

Now watch your escorts kick ass.......... 🙂

Yeap..."Patience...Is a virtue." 🙂 It definately takes awhile, but it's worth it with all the credits you earn daily...

    • Ther is 3567 or so ships in the defence fleets of all planets exept Mars.

Who would want to be patient. If you are lazy like me just lower the 3000 ships to 1,2 or 3. Way faster than conventional ways.

      ------------------
      if it dosent doesn't
      squiel its not worth
      killing

    • But how much money do you get if you capture Earth?

      ------------------

    • Let me tell you , ALOT espetialy if you capture the hole system. Just let the cash flow in!

      ------------------
      if it dosent doesn't
      squiel its not worth
      killing

    • Bah, give up on Sol. You could better use the time dominating less well defended planets--all independents, pirate planets, outlying confed planets (xcept ruby!), rebel planets (xcept sirgil!). This will give you the cash to buy the Fleet of DOOM and watch it roll over Earth as in the opening screen without lifting a finger.

I've built the Fleet, but never attempted domination of Sol with it...

      ------------------

    • Use my lazy man way and capture all the planets (I did that once)

      ------------------
      if it dosent doesn't
      squiel its not worth
      killing

    • But lowering the number of ships in a defense fleet kinda takes away the challenge. I feel much better knowing I've conquered Earth without messing around with the numbers in ResEdit. 🙂
