    • Selling captured ships (Newbie-ish question) ?

      Hello all,

Ok, so the topic says all. I happened to capture a ship (well, he attacked me first ! I'm not a pirate ! :p). Now, I have no use for it and I'd like to make some money from that ship.
Is it possible that I go to a spaceport and sell the ship ?

    • Welcome to the Boards! 🙂

The only way to make money from an escort is to use it to help you carry more cargo (assuming you're not in the planet domination business). You can't sell the escort, but if you want to get rid of it anyway, hold down option while cycling through targets in the normal way. This way the targeting computer won't skip over the escort, so you can select it. When it's selected, hail it, and click "Release from servitude".

Hmm. My problem was not getting rid of the escort, but making profit with it. Too bad.

Hmmmmmm.... Let's assume I disabled a wealthly merchant (say, a luxury liner or something). I board it, plunder it, then capture it. I release it. If I recapture it immediatly (which should not be too difficult, 'cause after all it's only a weak liner, and maybe it will even be shields down (??) ), do I find again lots of credits (and cargo) in it ? In which case I can imagine some sort of infinite loop of disabling-plundering-releasing.... (well, actually, if I assume to recapture it each time, which is far from being certain).

You could theoretically do that, but not more than a few times unless you had amazing luck as plundering often blows the ship up. Newly released ships do start at 0 shields, and they probably carry cash straight away.

From what you've said though, piracy sounds like a good career ;), so plunder as many ships as you can!

Hmm, did you try that or are you just guessing?
I would think that this would not be possible but did not try myself. If you try to board a ship twice, you get that "cannot board this ship" message, and if it really works you also have to be quick because released ships enter hyperspace immediatly.

Just guessing. I'm on a PC at work.

You'll get the "cannot board this ship" message if you board a ship, leave it disabled, then try to board it again.

However, it may well be possible to board a ship, plunder it, capture it without leaving the disabled ship after you boarded , use it as an escort, release it from servitude, than attack and capture it again. The difference is that the ship was reactivated between the 1st and 2nd attempts to board.

I don't know any of this for sure, though, it's just something to try.

Nice to have you here! 🙂

Unfortunately, no...You cannot sell your escorts. You can hire them and you can release them from service, but selling them is beyond Escape Velocity's power. If you want to sell your escorts, wait for EV:N...

    • I'm pretty sure i've tried that tactic, and even though the ship has been reactivated, i don't think you can board it again. Would be an interesting loophole though wouldn't it? 🙂

    • You cannot board ships twice under any circumstances. The capture release cycle won't work. I have captured escorts that get disabled in combat, and when I try to recapture them I can't board. There is no way to keep making money on a ship. This seems like a good place to point out, though, that you can sell escorts in Nova.
