If they are set to "always attacks player", then they will attack only you and, if you cloak, sit there and die. If they are set to something else though, if you disappear, they will move and attack other hostile targets. This is probably the problem you're having. BTW, if you don't know this already, when dominating planets, the defense ships are set up to always attack you, so if you have fighters/escorts and cloak, they just sit there too.:) With an outfit that gives you a jump of fuel every 10 seconde, you could probably stay cloaked forever, and have a really easy time taking over planets.

Thanks - makes sense now. I guess I'll have to stop relying on my fighters all the time. Launching 50 torpedoes is more fun than worrying that the capital ship will kill off my fighters anyway. But having 6 Mantas, 4 Thrashers and 6 Lightnings (got an extra one) is a whole lot of fun. I think I'll go back and play as a Confederate captain now. Having a PT boat for a fighter sounds like interesting
As for the permanent cloaking, yeah, it pretty much lasts forever with the Power Reactor - many minutes, at least, but it's not really enough to defeat the 3000-strong Earth fleet - at least not quickly. I added the Defender bay, giving me (6 mantas + 4 Thrashers + 6 Lightnings + 8 Defenders = 24 ships) but Earth's defense fleet has lots of platforms, which take forever to destroy even with my fleet. I don't have so much patience.
