    • Instability of EV (the program)

My installation of EV 1.0.5 seems to be having some trouble. I played the New Horizons plug-in, and late in the game I noticed that my legal status was messing up - sometimes it read "safetyhazard.idsclean" or some other unintelligible string. On occasion it was the whole list stuck together like "offender.felon.fugitive" or something similar. I could still land on the planets in question depending on the color codes (blue/red/orange). I switched to the Pale 1.9 plug-in with a new pilot, but encountered the same problem. I copied the pilot file, trashed the EV folder and reinstalled EV and Pale, but got the same problems with the old pilot. Also, the opening music no longer plays, although in-game sounds work fine. I trashed the EV preferences to no avail. Any ideas? The opening music being mute occurs before so I doubt it's a pilot file problem. Did my installer get corrupted? I'm sure formatting the hard drive and reinstalling plus new pilot would fix things but it's a little extreme. It's only been 15 days, so I doubt it's a Captain Hector problem, either.

    • Welcome to the boards! 🙂 Have you tried giving EV more memory. (I believe those are rather big plugs.)

Yes - EV is allocated 20000K. I removed the Pale plug-in, and I still get no opening music. But starting a new pilot does get the accompanying music. Weird. Makes no difference whether Intro Music is checked or not - in fact it was checked when it suddenly went mute. I will do a clean install of the OS and try again. It's currently on 8.6; I'll go back to 8.1.

I get this as well. It is harmless, although it does take away from the game experience. There is no need to trash pilots and such.

It has something to do with very long description texts. In Pale (haven't played it in months), there was a planet in the northeast part of the galaxy that I could land on and reproduce the problem. Part of the bar text would appear in the legal status field after I left the planet, and legal status would be scrambled for about a quarter of the planets thereafter.

If you have sound on your mac set very low , then EV's opening music will not play. After starting, EV takes over the sound and plays according to your EV preference settings.

If EV crashes or you Force Quit it, your mac's sound setting will be "adjusted". On my system it is "adjusted" to mute.

    • I've had similar problems, both with legal status and also With ship type on the main screen when loading pilots (anyone else seen that one?). All when using large plugs or really long descriptions. You might still try increasing memory more - some of those plugs can be real RAM pigs. I once had one that required 30MB. and I think I set it higher eventually.

Right on the money! Didn't notice that sound was "adjusted" way down. Thanks! I got my music back 🙂 But not after I'd reinstalled OS 8.1 and EV 😞 Oh well. I was all set to reformat the drive, too. I have 2 hard drives so it wouldn't have been that much of a hassle, but it would have taken a bit of time. Back to Pale... guess I'll give EV 40MB and see how it goes. The Redwing in Pale is surprisingly good... those mass drivers punch right through Kestrels. Have to remember not to take too many missions at the same time, though... running both confed and rebel strings at the same time got confusing 🙂

      ------------------

    • Those mass drivers are BRUTAL! I captured a Monitor, which has 4 of them, and I just blow through stuff. Pale was fun, but after a point, I stopped getting missions, and went back to playing EVO.

    • I suggest you select "empty trash" to help get rid of any problem in those plugs.

    • If the intro music dosen't work it might be turned of in the EV settings. Happens to me all the time! Just go to the EV Setings and turn on Intro Music

Did you not read his post? He said he realized that he had turned off the music.
