    • The most under estimated ship...

      Argosy, of course. Disscuss.

      ------------------
Crime? What crime?... That I killed a vile noxious insect, an old pawnbroker woman, of use to no one! ... Killing her was atonement for forty sins. ... (blood) Which all men shed, which flows and has always flowed in streams, which is split like champagne, and for which men are crowned benefactors of mankind.”

    • I like the argosy... I consider it a step down from the corvette (see the ship order thread). It is a relativly cheap ship, but it has good weaponry and cargo capibilities, allowing you to hold your own against most light capitol ships.

    • When the Argosy is being controlled by the artificial intelligence, it normally performs badly under attack and defense. However, when the Argosy is found in the hands of the player, it can be a very reliable and dangerous ship. Swap out the laser turret for proton turrets, by yourself a few mass expannsions. Head toward Spica, buy some armor and maybe a few shield enhancers. Then, grab some torpedoes to take on the capital hostile targets, and if you still have room, get a Hawk bay. Yes, the Argost certainly is an under-estimated craft. 🙂

    • Scoutship.

It's graphics are so disproportionately small, I used to think it an insignificant ship. (The Courier looks so much bigger. In fact, in total space, the Scoutship is only five tons less. And it is faster than the Courier.)

The Scout is a terrific rapid transporter -- and a deplorable fighter. Be patient. Rack up lots of Starbound and UGE missions. Escort people all over. Decline the assination and commerce raid missions...

Watch the credits pile up quickly. Buy your 'Vette and "deliver payback" to all those pesky pirates and Con-Ex guys who traumatized your Shuttle-Scout phase. (NOW you can accept the assinations and commerce raid missions....)

( "The majority is always wrong." I bought the "Argosy line" from all you posters. That ship is a major disappointment. Upgrading it gives one an (unfortunate) false sense of security. "Skip the Argosy altogether," is KK's advice.)

      ------------------
“You will find that our crew will be either the most valuable, loyal, and trustworthy of allies, or ... if you insist on trying to swallow us up -- the worst of enemies. The choice is yours. And should you choose to fight us ... don’t bring a knife to a gunfight!”

    • I prefer the Scoutship over the Argosy by a long shot, but that doesn't mean that the Argosy can't be a potential light warship. With upgrades, it's wonderful...If the Argosy is such a bad vessel, then why on earth would the Rebels take the design and use it for their Destroyer?

Otherwise, I would normally buy a Scoutship over an Argosy. I like to outfit it with four proton bolt cannons, and you have yourself a dangerous medium fighter. Give it upgrades, and you have a really dangerous fighter.

Because the engineers and builders on Clotho see the Argosy as "raw material." The key to successful development is taking an existing idea/design/approach and improving on it by orders of magnitude. The economies which come into play by figuring out how to use existing parts in the new design are integral to the ability of ... a (small, disorganized, rag-tag band of patriots standing up against superior numbers of wariors and credits.)

As far as KK is concerned the first goal of EV is to get in the first decent ship: A Corvette. Anything before the 'Vette is a risk KK chooses to keep as "temporary" as possible.

(Rapier fans, your arguments -- for decent status -- are the only ones worth making. Everyone else ... save your breath, please.)

    • "Why bother with freighters at all, argosys are pants even with shield upgrades, hard-pressed even to take out one other Argosy even upgraded, it will be your downfall with other pirates. Your cargo cant be protected on your own so escorts will have to be hired, rising costs even more...

...instead choose the Clipper, quick and economical. Although it cant carry as much cargo, its speed and defenses will that your cargo ALWAYS gets there on time INTACT* Upgrading space large enough to produce a ship that can go toe to toe with CORVETTES, even KESTRELS**"

Gross! I must admit that the Argosy is a far better then the slow, ill-fated Clipper. I've only bought the ship once... 🙂

    • actually, the clipper is very underestimated. I always go through this order: shuttlecraft, clipper, corvette, kestrel, and finally Rebel Cruiser. Though sometimes I skip the kestrel. The clipper is a very good ship, I have taken out numbers of pirates at a time in that. The argosy would never have stood against them. I stole an arosy once, thinking I would save money, man was I wrong. I wasted over 200k credits to upgrade it accordingly, then right after that 2 clippers blew me up.So I bought a Rapier. If I had more money to upgrade the argosy it could probably be close to the performance of a rebel destroyer. The shuttlecraft is the most underestimated ship.

      ------------------

    • Clipper is faster then the Argosy, but the Argosy has more room for expansions...
Well, I prefere the Argosy. It kicks Clippers a long way over the galaxy.
I just want to ask, is it anyone here who have managed to make something good out of a Defender? It is weak and poor with almost no room for expansions, and everything, save a shuttle, can destroy it. I have never managed to do anything useful with a Defender.

    • Skyblade, I wouldnt say ill-fitted. Clippers are pretty strong(from a poor mans prespective)I out fitted my with only a rocket launcher and 22 rockets.Took down many Argosys. You know when they go for the jump they stop for about 4-5 seconds, thats were I bang them.No damage and lots of money,in a small period of time especialy in Capella with the lugury liners.30-40 grand.

Well, normally I prefer a fighter that has some speed... lots of speed...So the Clipper has never appealed to me. Though I do love javelin rockets, I guess the Clipper just doesn't stay alive long enough to cause much harm.

    • Yeah, Capella is a gold mine. Not very hard to take over either. 🙂

I'd say the most underestimated ship is the luxury liner. Not from the pilot's point of view, though. It's that no one seems to realize how much money they hold. Of course if you want lots of money from one ship, look for a Kestral. Matt Burch for instance... 😉

when you blew them up in your shuttlecraft. 😉

Heh, that's a huge understatement, actually. 🙂 To put the Defender in detail, it is a paper-armored suicide craft, armed with twin toothpicks, and a whoppin one ton of cargo space...What am I leaving out? 😉 I think the only thing worth commenting about it the Defender's respectable speed...

    • That's a load of garabage. The Argosy is one of the most powerful ships in the game, I could take out other Argosy's without scratching my paint job. Clippers were another joke. Argosy's are great because of their huge mass, for cargo (looting) and upgrades. A decent pilot in an Argosy ship is very dangerous. Argosy is so multi-purpose, trading, pirating, everything. The most underestimated ship in the game. Its power is slightly less than that of a Corvette. And one can decimate a Corvette with an Argosy, with the proper combo: skill and the right upgrades. Maybe I will sell my Destroyer and get one again?

BTW- What happends when you put a missle rack on a Defender? You get a Lightning!
