After conducting several tests over the past weeks, using a standard Rebel Destroyer against a Confederation Frigate, the results were quite interesting. Using ResEdit, I was able to program the Sol system to have a single Confederation Frigate every time the player entered the system. I was using a standard-armed Rebel Destroyer, equpt with missiles and torpedoes, as well as a few heavy rockets. I played just like the AI does, making passes and receiving all the guided and turret weapons the Frigate fired. Now, I took on a Confederation Frigate twenty times. My Rebel Destroyer managed to come through the battles 65% of those times, which really tells me something: Does the Rebel Destroyer truely hold an edge with it's firepower and advantage in agility?
Post your comments and suggestions. The normal Rebel Destroyer has 200 shields, while the Confederation Frigate has 250 shields. But, the Rebel Destroyer has a shield recharge rate well over twice as fast as the frigate, and can almost fly circles around the thing. After finishing those tests, I'm now content to say that the Rebel Destroyer is a far better ship then the Frigate.
