You have to do the missions for the Confederation to get their ships. Also you can get a cheat plug-in.

How about this - save up for a Lightning. 1 mill isn't that much.

Then, duplicate the pilot file (select it in finder, hit cmnd-d).

Open the origonal, go find a Confed Gunboat. Dodge the heavy rockets, then disable/board it.

Capture, use as your ship. If you dont like it, go back to your old copy.

Using whichever you like, take on Pirates. Once you have enough for a Kestrel, go find a Fed Frigate. Disable/board/ect.

Look, the Confederate missions aren't all that hard, and the aliens CAN be beaten...why would you use a cheat plugin? Getting there is half the fun!

Oh yeah, and Rebels are WAAAAAAY better...
