After a short break from playing Uplink, I was all set for a new 'addiction cycle' when a curious problem occurred. When I started Uplink, the game did not recognize my old user file & asked me to create a new user. Confused, I shut down and checked my hard drive and there it was in the user file, just as I had left it. I tried 2 or 3 more times, with no change in success. I was quite disappointed as I had a great user going, but I resigned myself to starting over again. I played for a while, and then quit for a short break (dinner). When I started up again, my old user was there ready to go, as well as the new one that I created.

So, all was not lost as I was gleefully reunited with my old user, but I still find this rather odd.... Anyone else out there in Uplink-land encountered this problem???

Chances are, your options file got confused or deleted. That file knows if you've played before, so if it thinks you haven't, it makes you create a new user.
