I just did a mission which involved me deleting all the files and computer system of Unity Systems Central Mainframe. I went in, did the usual cd usr delete and cd sys delete, erased my logs at that computer and at InterNIC, then logged off, went to the News Server, waited until the News reported that all their files had been destroyed as well as the system etc, then went and replied to the email in which I was given the mission..but they keep telling me that they have not heard that the system has been destroyed yet...it is three days later, and it's been on the news...what is missing?

(and yes, I am sure that I destroyed the right system on the right computer..what else could be wrong?)

I did try again, three days later, and the server had no files on it...but I destroyed the system again just in case, waited for it to come up on the news server...and it did. Now I can see it reported twice on the news, yet still the company that hired me tells me that they haven't seen evidence of the destruction yet.

I'm concluding that it must be a bug.

Wierdness continues. Just did a similar missions again, on a different computer...news server reports destruction...I reply to the email saying I've completed the mission and they tell me that haven't seen any evidence that the system was destroyed. Don't these people watch the news?

Guess I won't be taking any more missions of this nature...shame, I like watching all those files being automatically deleted from the console

Oh! I think I may know what the problem is. Try just cd usr delete, and leave sys alone, and don't shut down the server.

Yeah, that seems to be the case. There are some missions that require you to delete a database, not the whole system.

Okay, that's probably the case, but if you haven't abandoned your targets yet, they've probably got empty servers.
Don't know if this will work, but perhaps you can copy a couple of files into your target then erase the server. It'd be nice if this sort of thing could work, but don't be surprised if it doesn't.

And while we're talking about copying your files to a server, always back up your software just in case you need to blow up your gateway (LAN-hacking missions give you legal access to file servers)!

Did you type 'shutdown' after typing cd sys - delete? You need to do that and to wait until their system boots you. You won't get traced after that.
