The mission tells me to go to the listed server bypass proxy and firewall and delete ALL the files in the server(this doesnt seem like a big deal). But when I delete all the files and the logs and send the reply of completion, they tell me the "damage has not been done". If You have any tips, or point out ways that im been totally stupid reply, thanks.

You need to wait for the official press release from the target company regarding your actions before the mission is considered complete.

No, no, I had this same bug happen to me twice. Sometimes, once you have taken out all the files of a server, the game won't recognize that the mission is complete. The files are all gone, but the news story never appears. I've even taken the target server all the way down and waited past the point where the news story appears for the server being taken down. The only recourse is to abandon the mission.
I'm waiting for it to happen again -- I'm wondering if there aren't more files below the viewable window that need deleting. Since I delete from the top down, perhaps the scrollbar is disappearing or something? Who knows.

unless there are only a few files, it's probably faster to got to terminal mode and delete from there anyway. For missions where they want you to destroy all the files, including backups, I usually just destroy the computer (from terminal mode). That deletes everything all right.

Hi Ricia,
I have the same problem like the other folks in this post, but you sayed thta you delete all files using the terminal, well I used too but some directories in the terminal cannot be deleted using terminal because the content of this directories are not shown in the terminal, and terminal says... files cannot be deleted because this operation cannot be performed using terminal...
By the way in a certain mission I need to delete some files in a certain directory in a mainframe computer... Well I accessed the mainframe, I disabled Firewall, Proxyes and monitors but the directory I need to delete not exist, If I look in terminal there are some directories and FileServer that I cannot see the content.
Wierd, no?
What can I do to complete this mission???thx

if you are trying to take down the system, go into sys and do the same.
You can also wipe out all of the logs from there.

I know it works, but in the mission I need to delete a directory called "Sales", but no directory appears anywhere.
I tryed to delete all directories from terminal but someone of theme cannot be deleted.:frown:

Interesting! I haven't run into that sort of mission. What do you see when you log onto that computer? Can you access the terminal?
Uplink console commands are modelled after Unix ones. In old unix commands, "rmdir" removes (aka "deletes") a directory. Seems to me that DOS used "rd" for that. Either way you need to type the name of the directory afterwards. And either way the directories had to be empty.
I don't know how much of this applies to Uplink. I suggest going to the terminal and typing "help" to see the list of commands. Look for "rmdir" or "rd" or something like that. If it doesn't exist, perhaps "delete" would do for deleting directories, if they are empty.
A possible list of commands to do this job (with alternative last lines)
cd sales
delete
cd ..
rmdir sales | delete sales | rd sales(you probably know and already tried at least some of the above)

I've had a similar problem; that is never getting the press release of the machine's destruction. The solution, that has worked for me so far anyway, is to log back onto the machine, actually upload a program to the server portion, then head to the console to do the dirty work.
BTW, while I'm on the topic ot the console, type help in for a list of commands, and then type dir to get a list of directories. That will give you alll you need to know about the console commands.

In that type of mission you just delete everything on the file server using the console(cd usr-delete) in a few days it will be in teh news and then you send the reply back to the comapnay that hired you. This worked for me.

I've had that problem, but I didn't sit around and wait for the news to show up. I got really ticked off, bought a voice analyzer, logged into their mainframe and crashed that.
Then I got somewhere. Maybe just that the news came out at that time.

Oh. That's Interesting. I
wonder if I can hack it? -

Whenever I hack into the computer, go to the console and type
cd usr
deleteIt always works so I can't help you there. My only guess is that it's a bug. You should tell Ambrosia or Introverion about it, they should be able to help if not then I don't have a clue. scratches head in confusion
