    • At the risk of being beaten up - LANs again

      3 3 339

I've got a question about LANs... Are they randomly generated? Here's why I ask... I went to the second ARC mission, and got a very strange LAN at Darwin. The main computer was only two steps away from the entrance router (I just had to go through a hub). The hub connecting the router to the main computer also connected to another hub. That led to two locks and their controllers, and a hub (or router, I cannot remember). The hub/router led to four terminals, one of which led to another lock. I opened all the locks. The top two led to two more locks. And each of those locks dead-ended. They didn't go anywhere. I did experience the LAN probe bug, which I got around by restarting. Several times, in fact. But the new locks, even after being forced open (since they didn't have any visible controllers), led nowhere. I logged onto everything to check for a wireless frequency or something. So I ignored the most of the LAN, logged nearly directly onto the main computer, and had to go four times to get all 9 files because I got kicked off rather quickly each time. So did the locks go somewhere, or were they just dead ends? Anybody run into this before?

(BTW, in addition to the LAN probe bug, I've noticed that Uplink crashes about every third or fourth time I hit the LAN-view button the first time I log into a LAN. Is this a known bug?)

      Thanks!

    • I think the locks are there with the only purpose of protecting the main server. If you click on the main server the locks that have the "protectedby" label are the ones you have to krak. Oh, and see my other post on how to get all the files in one sitting. Note that all info i give you may not apply, cuz I have the windoze version. And from what I am hearing over here, its no better (in terms of bugs)

EDIT: Forgot to answer your main question- I believe they are random, but the one i phr3ked sounded similar to yours. Did you encounter a subnet anywhere in that LAN?

    • The four locks with nothing beyond them are actually protecting the main server. You will need to force all four of them, and then hack the server.
