Anyone who's made a mod will know that there is a set of images for a "load game" button in the main menu. Chris is on record somewhere - I'm afraid I can't say exactly where - as saying that an early build of the game had a save game feature, which was taken out (just like the cooling section of the hardware) because it made the game too easy. There was no real challenge if when you got caught you could just load from before the hack.

Since when is it putting words into the developer's mouth to quote them?

I honestly think that backing files up is cheating. You should be careful and try not to get caught. If you get caught, it's all part of the learning experience. However , as Adriac said, there is no point in getting in an argument about it. Everyone is entitled to their own views, and cheating is perfectly acceptable to many. If it makes your game more fun then it's worth it, right?

You hypocrite...

In a way you could call it cheating, but in another, you still need to be able to do the hack, or stop the passive trace or whatever needs to be done, so it still requires the effort to get past that point. Just you have infinite tries.

Technically if you do lose, loading up your file would be like a 50,000 credit cheat if that was how much you had, because it is money you should not have because you are caught.

Backing up your .usr file is sort of like the Monty Python Maneuver in EV: it's there and whether you choose to use it or not is up to you. If you want to use it, go ahead. If you don't, that's swell too. It's all a matter of personal opinion and values. The issue of the MP Maneuver was never really settled, and I doubt it ever will be. My guess is that backing up your .usr file will become much like MP Maneuver in terms of debate.

I think that since this is a hacking game, you should be able to perform hacks on the game itself. I figured this out myself, and I think it is kind of a hack.
