I have found that the "music.dat" file is just a zip file with no compression (in other words, an uncompressed archive). All that you have to do (i think, since i haven't tried this myself) is:
      1. Find any ".mod" or ".uni" music files on the web. (you can test play them with MACAST (url="http://"http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/2534")http://www.versiontr...info/macos/2534)(/url)
      2. If you need to, get, then open Dropzip (from stuffit) and go to preferences. change compression to none.
      3. Zip the music files and use resedit (or whatever you use to change creators/types) to change the Creator/Type to Uplk/DATA respectively(case-sensitive). Change the file name to music.dat and you're ready to go. If it works, envision me bowing humbly. If it doesn't, envision me running.

    • The fact that uplink's data files are uncompressed zip archives is, afaik, well known. All you have to do to figure that out is to drop them on stuffit expander.

File suffixes really doesn't say much about what kind of data the file contains. Do you know what kind of music files Uplink uses?

(edit) I wish there was a preview feature on this board. (/edit)

    • I've tried this. It doesn't work too well. Sorry. I've also tried replacing the files with silent .uni files. Also does not work. Please verify your 'hacks' before you go posting them publically.
