Hi all!
It's been a while...

I got uplink and played one or two hours (cool intro without these menue-screens, btw). My first agent learned it the hard way that you should not hack an account directly

But straight to the point, I used this "tracer-tracker" (don't remember the correct name) the tutorial recommends. The one that shows you the percentage until being cought. It worked fine but after a while I wanted "something new" and tried the upgrade that is supposed to show the trace on the map. But it didn't show me
That's a bad thing, you know! I was sitting there without any hint and suddenly I was kicked out

What's wrong, why doesn't it work, did I miss something? Why can't I dump the thing and use the old tracker instead?
I can't continue this agent without such a tool, so please help.

Don't know. No idea. Probably, did you have enough space in your memory banks? And: sure you can have both running at the same time, one changing the color of the links on the minimap, and the other beeping and telling you the time left until you're traced.

Hmm, strange. I'll try again using both but it didn't work last time.
So, the color should change? That was definitely not the case... how can I hack the central uplink computer and kick some butt?

I hope it's not a tryout-restriction (not registered) but I read that the restriction is only about the ranking and the hardware you can buy.

If I was leading a coorperation(sp.) that hired hackers, I would definetially have some MAJOR protection on my systems! Seriously, I would have 10 men constantly on duty to trace hackers...

It's good for the players that you're not in charge of Uplink, then.

They only have v5 monitor, proxy and firewall protection, and probably a damned fast passive trace. (Dunno about the passive trace - didn't get caught.)

I agree, i've the same problem with this ****ing show map tracer...

i've many Gb free on my gateway, it's not the prob.
but my cash is spend !!! :frown:

and it isn't a prob of registration... i'm registred user...
uplink is too bugged, **** !

I think the HUD: Trace Tracker upgrade is supposed to be used in addition to one of the trace trackers that shows the trace percent and time left. Just an idea.

I believe so as well. Try buying a V4 Trace Tracker(Best Version, basically), and this might fix it.

I'll say this with a caveat: I've never purchased the tracker beyond V2.

That being said, if you want the trace to show on your map, just get the HUD upgrade and be done with it. Perhaps the upgraded trace program only shows the links on the full-screen map? shrug In any case, if you're like me the colored lines won't help much because your routes are so long it looks like a ball of string

When my agent got caught and "disavowed" I was pretty angry, so I decided to play an accelerated version of the game. Basically I took 5+ missions where I got half the money in advance and bought the HUD tracer upgrade right off the bat. Then I bought Log Deleter 4, etc. Anyway, the point is, I waited a loooooooong time to get Trace Tracker (its nice to have an actual time left) and I was running the HUD this whole time. Sure you didn't buy the IRC or something? Also, to avoid long strings, get an account at every bank and route through them. No more long strings

Trace Tracker V4 is so much better. It gives you the time in seconds that you have left.
