I got this mission, and I have to change the qualifications for someone by the name of "Ed Drummer" when I do the file search it comes up as me, the mission says to give this person "first class qualifications" what exactly does that mean?

Basically, exactly that. 
He will already have second, third, or some other class of qualifications, likely, and you need to simply delete those words, and replace with "first class".
ex: Vivisectionist, Third Class --------> Vivisectionist, First Class
That's all there is to it!

Under Graduate Qualifications, he should have something that says "Chemistry Degree, Class 2" (or some other subject). Change the 2 to a 1 and Commit. If he doesn't have a degree already, you type one in as specified in the letter (formatted just like the example above).

I just did it about 5 times over and over, and eventually I figured out what I did wrong, which I don't recall at the moment.....

i believe u said the name comes up as you. If this is still occuring it is because u MUST MUST MUST capitalize...uplink is very picky when it comes to capatilization. i had this problem at first too. As to why it is not changing.....if u r doing it to ur file im not sure u can change it...n e body know bout that..also..are you sure you are pressing the "commit" button <~~ (im having doubts about that being the name but i think thats what it is...)

Okay, here's what to do:
1. If your mission is to make someone's class a rank of 3(Basically, make it worse), change the number at the end of whatever class they completed to a 3, press commit, and you're done.
2. If you have to upgrade their class level to 1, do the same as above, but put a 1 in instead of a 3 and select commit.
3. If you have to give them a first class degree, put in any degree into the middle text box(I always use Physics, easy to remember) with a capital letter first just to be safe(ie not physics, but Physics), put a comma, press space, put Class(Also capitalized), press space, and put a 1. Then, select commit. If you go back to that person's record, I believe it is changed back, but you'll still get credit. Just click reply and send, and it should work.
4. And for extra qualifications such as Registered Uplink Agent, just enter that, just as it appears in the email, into the bottom text box and select commit.
